KeymasterRe: Most ridiculous part price
Two from Whirlpool sent to me:
481236018475 – Ball – This is what looks to be an Eco-Ball for the sump of a washer, roughly 1 1/2″ spherical plastic ball…
£66.49
481249298019 – Spring – Just a small spring for behind a knob or suchlike, 2″ by about 1/2″…
£54.20
Whirlpool you should be utterly ashamed, those are crazy prices and yes, we did verify them!

Well, here’s one from a member of the public…
Set of four plastic knobs for a De Dietrich FW4827 built-in oven (bearing in mind that the construction is so shoddy, with four tiny plastic pins taking all of the rotational shear force, hence why they keep breaking!)…
…£40 + VAT!
Anyone out there willing to sell these to us at a more sensible price?

KeymasterI’m an agent for De Dietrich and have been for many years and I’m actually fed up with people complaining about the price of those control knobs. Usually the customer wants two sets, then just one after they find out the prices!
Sorry Gracecourt but they are DD only spares and not available from any other source so they can charge what they like for them. 🙁

KeymasterRe: Most ridiculous part price
Thank you for your prompt response, kwatt, it’s appreciated. I wonder if there are any beancounters at DD who could calculate the impact of the easy profits on these items against lost repeat sales??
Never buying again and recommending others not to buy De Dietrich must have an impact of some sort!!

I too am a DD agent and have had many discussions ref these knobs,
I am afraid The bean counters dont seem to see things in the same way as the rest of us.
That combined with the fact that most housing developments seem to have DD appliances as standard ,And they are not sold by the multiples i.e Currys etc
They work to a different agenda to most manufacturers .
Unfortunately I Imagine they think that for every one sale they will lose they will gain a whole housing estate
I know this doesn’t help you but believe me when I say there is nothing more embarassing than having to justify obscene part prices ,And having no say over them .
Regards

Yeah, but clocks in general are a lot of money. I have seen far more expensive clocks on far cheaper cookers. Once again I say that SMEG spares some of the best value when compared to the retail price of the product.

KeymasterI don’t disagree at all Mark, but it still makes it £200 almost by the time it’s fitted. 😕
The laugh is that from my experriences with the electronics industry you’d be lucky if there were £30 worth in the thing.

Smeg built in stainless double oven, the trim that goes around the outside of the whole frame, £81.66 inc VAT.
A little excessive I think

Lid for my MagiMix 3100 bowl – £38.73 excl VAT…
…bowl itself is about the same.
Only reason I need to replace them is that the supposedly unbreakable Lexan that they are made from has crazed and fractured!
So anyway – we’re looking at just shy of £80 + VAT to replace the bowl and lid and I can get a completely new one for £137 (inc VAT). Anyone know of anywhere cheaper for the spares?
