Let’s put the price issue into context here.
Consider the Indesit WIL103 – Price point at Comet – £179.
When the motor blows and takes out the digiboard, this what you are looking at to repair it.
C00092153 – motor – £89.25 SSP
C00091907 – module – £79.31 SSP
1 Hours labour…………£45.00
VAT @ 17.5{e5d1b7155a01ef1f3b9c9968eaba33524ee81600d00d4be2b4d93ac2e58cec2d}…………..£37.37
A Grand Total of……….£250.93.And that is why people get cross about the price of spares. Two components add up to more than the purchase cost of machine. It is worth considering that neither of these two components would cost The Indesit Company more than £15 at most. We accept that all manufacturers need to put a mark up on spares to cover storage and handling and the like, but this much?
So, disgruntled consumer will move away from Indesit and buy Creda. Or Hotpoint. Or Ariston. Or even Jackson. Which all come from……The Indesit Company.
You can still buy the WIL103 in the shops by the way.

A customer of mine has a 5 year old AEG Lavatherm 33600W Dryer and the ‘permanently fixed in the element assy microtemp’ has gone. (couldn’t read the value or replace anyway). So it needs a new Element Assembly (Part No: 1120990286) and those nice chaps at Connect will order one for me for £82 plus VAT (£125/140 odd retail).
If I now phone my customer with a quote and what the likely delivery date will be, I know what her reply will be
(Thinks….a UKW Tumble Dryer might not be a bad idea?)

Not strictly bits of string, this machine is made by Brandt and the door springs attach to two nylon cords with plastic mouldings on either end. Price is £18.20 inc vat. They fail quite often and the price is a bit silly but far from the worst example of over pricing.

KeymasterHi Adam,
Believe it or not we get just as angry about this sort of practise as our customers do. At times it’s really infuriating, especially when we have to write a machine off because of a stupid part price.
But I’ll bet if you query it it’ll be an “error on the system”, so many systems, so many errors… 😉

Hahaha errors what a load of tripe, they only say that to fob you off, when we were fixing our Vax, the part that needed replacing was £12 from partsmaster (currys own) for just a bit of plastic, we ended up fixing it our self for nothing really, just a bit of superglue, and a hard plastic bottle top and a drill and bobs your uncle, a perfectly good working hoover for nothing.
