The main fan assisted bottom oven isn’t heating up, all I’m getting is cold fan air. Any suggestions? Thanks.
No jacket potato for me this evening 🙁

Thanks Don. The E-Nr on the front side of the oven reads: U1721N2GB. /05. FD 8405

    part number of element 494643

dont use non gen elements on these as i have had problems over the years

its a bit of a pig to get off as you have to remove the fan to get at the centre screw and some are real fun to get them off

for your interest unit built may 2004

Thanks – is this something I can replace myself, or is it an engineer’s job?

all depends how easy that fan comes off

unless your good with mechanics and removing siezed parts then its an engineers job. Dont forget its been on there for 16 years or so

    try here

    insist on a gen element

I did train as a mechanical engineer back in the early 80s, so I’ll give it a try 🙂

Is there some sort of guide as to taking it apart etc?

I remove inner cover plate. early ones use philips screws later ones use torx 20

undo nut on fan and remove washer behind

after that fan pulls straight off but its seldom that easy

you can add a but of wd but the oven will stink of it till it burns off. Also remember its flammable so use a little in the right place

i then jam spanners behind the fan so its solid. take the original nut, screw it back on but not all the way. Then using a socket and extension i tap the extension with my pliers. what your trying to do it push the shaft through the fan which cant move because its jammed against the back of the oven. as it comes off you will have to back the nut off to get it further and further. the last but can be hard as you dont want to damage the motor shaft as the gen ones are over £100

you never know, Some fall off and some are real pigs

when you come to put it back make sure the orientation is correct as the “d” in the washer has to be in correct position

    Thanks Dave, you’re a star 🙂
I’ve just had a look at the current element and it actually looks fine. I was expecting it to look like it had blown in some way – what causes them to go?

they normally blow on the curves as they turn 90 degrees as they go through the back panel

these elements were a bit of a problem and did not seem to last as long as the circular ones

You’re absolutely right, that nut is difficult to undo. Do you know what wrench size it is?

it might be 10mm but cant remember but it may be a left hand thread

Hmm, so it’s possible I’ve been tightening it? 🙂

which ever way the fan turns the nut undoes in the same direction ( most of the time )

I managed to bend the top bracket instead of removing the fan, which seemed impossible.
