ParticipantI’ve encountered a slight problem – one of the clips that attaches to the element itself seems to have broken , and it won’t stay firmly on the element clip. Any suggestions? The wire itself seems to be slightly shorter than the other cable, and I’m worried it might drop back through the hole.

Moderatorall you can do is gently squeeze the terminal with pliers to tighten it. if it loosens again then the metal may have degraded and it would need a new terminal fitted. if its left loose it will burn out and you may have to replace the element again as it will damage that terminal as well

ParticipantIt seems to have badly corroded. I squeeze it together with pliers, but will not stay tight enough to remain securely connected. I don’t trut using it as it will most likely come loose and short out with the nearby pin. Can I buy new spade connector clips somewhere?

ParticipantOr is there some way of extending the cable with a cable joint and new clip?

Moderatoryou need to cut the cable back and put a new terminal on
you have to cut back till you find clean wire or it will burn out in weeks

ParticipantWhere can I find heat-resistant terminal clips – and a crimper?
November 15, 2024 at 3:40 pm #472518vidmarc
ParticipantAnd a little extra cable, so I can crimp them together and make it a bit longer.

ParticipantI took the back off, and was able to feed some more of the cable through. 🙂

ParticipantI put another new element in last October (2024) and it’s been working fine until today. Was cooking some croissants and the the wall mounted fusebox oven circuit fuse blew. I’ve looked at the element and I can’t see any signs that this was the cause. I’ve also opened the back up and can’t see any obvious signs of what could have happened.
I’m now worried about switching the oven circuit fusebox back on. Any suggestions? Thanks.

Moderatoryou say fuse blew but you actually mean it tripped
there are 2 kinds of trips
one measures earth faults and you can turn that on and try it as often as you like as it does not go bang
the other measures current overload and that can cause damagewhat i am after is what blew ?

ParticipantThe main fusebox blew (with a bang) which feeds the oven. I checked the oven and couldn’t see any obvious signs of what caused the fuse to blow.

Moderatorwhat was on at the time is normally a good place to start
and does this fuse box feed anything else as anything it feeds is suspect
was it the rcd that blew ( the one with a test button )
