He has a thing; if you look at his previous posts, about fire and electrical hazards, sounds like an ambulance chaser :rolls:

Put this in here so that the XML doesn’t worry anyone, didn’t want to put. ‘Go back to school, you imbeciles’. 😆
Just had this PM from bobokines. Is it only me that thinks of him as bobo-kines, rather than Bob Okines. 😆
Jim, as a moderator, can you start a thread about the quality of the punctuation and grammar in the trade forums. It might seem better coming from a moderator rather than from a normal user.
Many of the messages are virtually unreadable! I noticed that you had a dig at someone a week or two ago. There also seems to be a bit of SHOUTING going on that nobody is picking up on.
Or am I being a bit picky? (sorry, that sentence is gramatically incorrect)
Bob
…………………………Here is my reply.
…………………………Hi Bob, hows things ?
I understand your concerns, as someone who left school at the age of 15 with no formal qualifications,I find the general standard of spelling and grammar on here and on other forums that I frequent, frankly appalling.
With regard to the shouting, if it is a one off, then most of the time the mods will let it go. We do normally politely ask if someone is constantly posting with the caps lock on.
With regard to the spelling and grammar, this is a more difficult area. Due to the general lowering of standards, even in higher education it is often accepted as the norm. People can become very upset or even downright rude if you constantly pull them up. I do try to slip in the odd sly ‘hint’ to posters from time to time. Also you have to bear in mind that we have no idea just who the poster is, English may not be their first language, or they may be dyslexic.
The recent sad loss of my mother two weeks ago has made me a little more circumspect of late, no doubt I will soon return to my usual, disgusted self when I see awful posts, for now I just think, live and let live.
Regards.
Jim.
PS. I will mention it to the other mods to see if they think things need tightening up.
………………………..Do we need to be stricter, I personally think we have it about right.
Jim.

There is a quirk on the system which may be of interest – if you edit a post before anyone posts a reply, it doesn’t show as an edit. I quite regularly sort out some of the worst atrocities and have not had a comment passed yet.
It’s a broad church is UKW and they ain’t all geniuses – most of the time you can just let things ride.

KeymasterI agree with Chris, it’s not our job to teach people how to spell or write.

It won’t show up at any time Chris as an edit by a moderator to correct lousy spelling mistakes etc. Editing your own posts however will show up after a certain time period (whatever that may be – 2, 4 or 6 hours from first posting maybe?)
I do agree about letting many posts stand as they are with no punctuation marks, bad spelling and CAPS LOCK ON. But if they are regular postees and persist in it then that’s the time to have a quiet word with them I guess. 😉
My mate fasetester can string a good sentence together, don’t you think? 😆
Shame that he knows sweet FA about fixing machines though! :rolls:

I think so and agree with Chris. I must admit to correcting spelling covertly as I see no reason to make an issue and belittle someone about their grammar.
At the end of the day we are here to get information across and to gather a happy band of members. If we started becoming a picky spelling enforcer than we aren’t going to get very far.
Now CAPITALS IS A DIFFERENT GAME 😀 persistent offenders I believe should be given a quiet word.Greg

So who is dal? Only posts so far seem to be for his own gains in classifieds and is offering up to 100 Hotpoints for sale 😕 Seems more of a shop trader than some trade guy off loading the odd spare. What do you guys think?

Subject: WMA34 Control Board config codesHi
I have had to edit your post here.
We cannot give that sort of information out in a public forum due to the legal and ethical aspects of it.We at UKW do value your input on the site but we all have to be a bit reserved when in the Public Forums.

It is worth noting that the appropriate configuration code instruction sheet is enclosed in the replacement Module boxes. So when Mike Brennan gets his new Module from 4ourhouse.co.uk he will be a happy bunny no doubt! 😉
