ParticipantI’m due to speak to Qualtex’s chief in the next week or so, he is going to phone me about a discount scheme for the WTA members. I spoke to Ken yesterday (Wed) and the general consensus was although there is little profit margin in trade sales ATM, Qualtex should be able to do something for us.
Show of hands here – Do we ask for a set percentage discount across the board (and what is a reasonable amount) or a scheme based on popular items / high volume stuff with the discount on a sliding scale.
Comments please…………Steve.

My suggestion is set discount (keep it simple)… Wouldn’t like to suggest a percentage… Have NO idea what profits they have to give away more!… Anything is better than nothing though!… Ade

Yes, I was thinking that a fixed {e5d1b7155a01ef1f3b9c9968eaba33524ee81600d00d4be2b4d93ac2e58cec2d} is the better route, otherwise we will have another Connect pricing situation. The only stumbling block with that is special order stuff – even retail is sometimes just a few £’s above trade. (BSH parts for example).
The high volume spares discount would be relatively straightforward to negotiate; the special order discount is the bit I’m stuck on…….Any input appreciated!!!

What about just negotiate a discount on parts that they have in stock? Forget about special order stuff etc… Simple…
If you’re a WTA member you get a **{e5d1b7155a01ef1f3b9c9968eaba33524ee81600d00d4be2b4d93ac2e58cec2d} discount on stock items @ Qualtex?…

Anything happening on this front?

I’ve put the aforementioned suggestions to South West several times; they are still looking into it but nothing concrete has transpired as yet. I’ve had no return on the promise of contact from head office after returning the requested call.
I’m glad you raised this Adrian, I’ll try again this week. South East keep emailing me special offers after the conversation I had with them, but no response on the WTA discount front. I’ll try them as well – again….Steve.

I had a detailed conversation with John the manager at Qualtex South West earlier this week and he suggested that the WTA discount would probably have to be for account holders only. On the face of it, that sounds OK, until you consider he has quite a few traders that buy over the counter day by day with no set account and others on stop that are allowed limited cash only sales. If WTA members aren’t paying their bills, Qualtex could be reluctant to give discount. Obviously, there’s a bit of devil’s advocate in that statement, but it was something that he thought may come up in the conversation with Phil (bossman) next week. 😕
I’m e’mailing Mark at S’East at his request this weekend with the outlines of the discount scheme based on popular items and maybe some special offers only open to WTA members being implemented in the future when the membership grows.
Phil is back from holiday on Tuesday, so I should have three people’s attention on this and hopefully we’ll get a result. John is due a routine visit from Phil next week anyway and he has promised me that he will back WTA discount on my behalf.Anything to add to that?

I’ve been thinking about this.
Dangerous.
We’ll talk at the meeting but do remind me of a buying group and the CIH model. It’ll make sense to me and it’ll trigger the info to spew forth.

Cryptic Kenneth……….. 😕 (A bit of early morning alliteration there. :cool:)
Are you suggesting that I don’t pursue this yet? You’ll have to spew sooner (preferably today) as I’m not sure I quite understand the ‘dangerous’ bit. I figured there was no harm in asking or at least sowing the seeds with Qualtex – they can always say No and we’d be no worse off. I thought it could only be good for the WTA if we had the scheme approved or at least an agreement to roll it out when the membership grows.
The only danger is that I could look stupid if I get my facts wrong, so I really need to know what you mean Ken before I write this e’mail………. 🙁Steve.

No no Steve, it’s me thinking that’s dangerous, not what you’re doing!
What I’m thinking about isn’t happening anytime soon so fire ahead I say and see what you can get.

After almost a year of conversations, broken promises of return phone calls and e’mails, lots of ‘nodding in agreement’ with no follow up of substance……..well, I never thought I’d get to write this BUT………..
I can confirm from my conversation today with Mark Etherington that we have definate backing from Qualtex for the WTA discount scheme.
The bit I was disappointed about was being told today (5pm) that they have to pull out of the meeting as Phil (the boss) can’t be available (despite being told of the date 3 months ago) as the new cleaner they have introduced is so successful that it has diverted the people I was expecting to get at the meeting to concentrate on it. 😕 Mark added that Phil enquired when the next meeting was; but when I said September he said that it was a shame it wasn’t sooner. I have pestered Mark for so long that I am frustrated that I could not announce they were atttending as they hadn’t given me a definate answer. I am hoping this continual delay and rearrangements will not affect the outcome of the meeting, although I would have liked to have seen Qualtex be more proactive instead of leaving it to the last minute.But they have put forward 3 proposals:-
1) To meet the WTA council inside the next 3 months to finalise the agreement;
2) We produce a flyer about the WTA, its aims, ethos and its intentions to help the industry. Also the discount scheme with Qualtex as a bonus to membership.
3) To have WTA themed open days at their branches (although I thought that that was a little self – indulgent ATM as IMO we need to walk before we can run). What do you think about this?
Number 2 seems the one to focus on first as it may boost the numbers at the meeting. If we can get a “prospectus” rustled up over this weekend then I can e’mail it to Mark and he has offered to punt it to every account in the country….. 😀 They will polish the artwork and do the printing or e’mailing as well for free.
With the Qualtex endorsement, the WTA’s profile should be raised – hopefully it’ll get some traders thinking and get the wheels rolling.I am very short of time this weekend as I am helping care for my eldest son who has been seriously ill this week. He was on life support Friday and Saturday last week and although he is home, he is still very weak. But he is getting better by the day, so fingers crossed, I’ll be at the Friday meeting. I will do what I can, but some help would be really appreciated!!
So please, please, any suggestions at all welcome. I want to mention:-
1) Awaiting the OFT backed COP;
2) Spares discount scheme;
3) Fuel discount scheme; (is that still going?)
4) Exclusive work offers;
5) Identity card scheme.Anything I’ve missed or you can add? Or do you think that it’s too short notice to roll this out ATM?
Steve.

blimey Steve, well done with everything else that going on .
My thoughts are ..
lets talk at the meeting and work out exactly what we want ,I like the idea of them doing a flyer and also paying for it ,Masterpart are wanting to do something similar and now we have to persuade both Qualtex and Masterpart that they can both benefit from doing the same thing which could be interesting,although it has just crossed my mind that Qualtex do finished goods whereas Masterpart don’t so there is one difference we can work on already,plus the fact that this gives them both an opportunity to outflank connect .
Once we know where we are going then we can meet Qualtex and Masterpart to work out the nitty gritty re mail outs ,timings etc .
This can then all roll into a BIG September mtg as sadly we don’t have an awful lot happening at this one ,I am not being a damp squib but if qualtex were to mail there accounts with a flyer I don’t imagine an awful lot of people will be able to attend at a weeks notice .
If we keep our powder dry then give maximum effort for Sept we may get a much better response .
Hope your Son is on the mend,hopefully see you FriFebruary 25, 2010 at 10:06 pm #286684aqualectric

Sorry I can’t make it guys; I’ve only been in 20 minutes before typing this and I’m shattered. 🙁
But this you need to know……..
Had a long and productive chat with Phil Hulme today – Qualtex are 100{e5d1b7155a01ef1f3b9c9968eaba33524ee81600d00d4be2b4d93ac2e58cec2d} behind the WTA and will assist us in any way they can. (his words, not mine). He thinks it’s an excellent opportunity and is very pleased to have been asked.
He has not only offered to spread the word to all account holders but also offered the services of his legal department to help forward our association if needed. He is mindful that if legislation comes our way then his business as well as the independent engineers (who he described as his “core business”) will suffer. He said Qualtex would back our COP and endorse it. We would also have access to the tech info they have………:DHe is planning to meet me in late March / early April to see what we want in the way of discounts and promotions. After the meeting he is going to instruct his P.A. to deal directly with the WTA as a whole on present and future issues and to ask if we need anything……..:wink:
And…….. I have confirmation that Qualtex will be doing a full presentation at the September meeting with both Phil Hulme and Paul Curran (Manchester branch manager) attending. It will include the new web ordering system and new products coming on line. The WTA scheme is then set for launch!!!!
It’s in the can guys!!!! Please discuss and I want your views………..
Steve.
