Excellent advice from forum member Lasty.

In most cases the largest of the three adjacent capacitors on the main board rated 680u – 10v …. has failed.

The top of the capacitor appears domed.

Replacement costs a few pence.

I think the most common repair to modules of all, and worth recording here, is the relay solder terminal found on many dishwasher boards, especially Bosch, and on washing machines, especially Hoover and Zanussi. Fault symptoms are usually no motor action on washers and no heat on dishwashers. The degree of visible damage can vary from a cracked joint only visible with a magnifying glass, to a one centimetre hole blown in the board. I usually find it sufficient to clean up the mess with emery paper, spread on a bit of flux and remake the joint. Occasionally, there’s no leg left on the relay so it must be replaced. That’s normally a “take it home” job for me but it could be done in the field if you can get comfy enough. The relays are usually 12 volt or 24 volt coil but look very much the same, so check the print on the old one to make sure the new one is same. It’s a good idea to fit a higher spec version while you’re at it, e.g. 12amp in place of 10amp if same size and available.
Then there’s track repairs of course. These are often caused when an interlock or other component shorts and a bit more current flows through the track than it was designed for. I carry a few short lengths of thin insulated wire with pre-tinned ends so I can just solder them in once the pcb is cleaned up.

Amazing how many dodgy Servis PCBs in particular respond to a well tightened edge connector. Scary to think how many i have declared knackered in the past that may have just needed a quick squeeze?!

Start button/pcb on Servis Tumble dryers that will not stay “started” check the big ceramic resistor which are easily available for recycling from your old stock of modules.

quite a few dishwashers use a 1uf or 1.5uf capacitor as a power supply for the pcb
when these go it is like having a low battery

fault you expect dishwasher turns on set prog
prog starts and dishwasher fills as soon as main motors switches on it all goes pear shaped (ie not enough power to hold in motor relay )

similar problem on the old hoover tumble dryers small pcb that start td
replace small cap (think its .22uf from memory) board repaired repair cost less than 50p

Servis washing machine modules where resistor R1 fails.

Symptoms are a dead machine.

Replace R1 with new resistor The value can go from 8ohm 2watt to 47ohm 2watt where the wattage could also be bigger.

on the wma boards when the brushes have failed and blown the tracks if you go to the effort of repairing them and the machine then races into spin there is a diode which needs replacing it is pretty much straight above where the damage is done on the end of a line of 4 little components done 100’s

Not a fault. P&P is inclusive in price. You can buy an item for 50p and they send it by DHL inclusive!

Flashing all display lights and F02.

Changed the capacitor to cure flashing lights and it sorted the F02 fault as well.

I dont think it was just a bad motor or board connection giving the F02, as all connections were tight enough.

So it may be worth changing the capacitor for an F02 fault as well???

Old Hat for many engineers here, but I just discovered soldering flux

which I believe works by cleaning and removing oxides from the soldered surfaces.

Point is it has made a big difference for me when it comes to soldering burnt relay posts etc. the solder sticks first time no problem.

I apply it with a fine hard bristly brush and give the job, the compnent and the solder a bit of a scrub with the flux. Works like magic

WMA Boards

When these refuse to start up it is often the tiny little start button that has come de-soldered sometimes even drop off all together.
Just re-solder in place and off they go.
On occasion, with permission of the customer, I have pinched one of the option buttons to replace the on/off where the old switch could’nt be found..

i dont know if this is worth posting but here goes.
whirlpool D/W with flow meter fault you can check the reed switch with a magnet and meter if it doesnt work easy to replace .i usually get them from maplins .a lot cheaper than having to buy full matrix from whirlpool.
