went to work on one of those bellings if its the 3 ring type cos it was tripping out. circa 1950s too.
turned out all the insulation on the wiring had basically either turned to dust or crumbled off (this was her only cooker) and had begun to arc. it had a totally completely beautiful external condition tho.
thing was she was looked after by carers who hated it, and barclays who were the attorneys in law or whatever who had control over her funds declined any repair because a new indesit s/o was only £180 from comet or something at the time.
so, after bidding farewell, it went to the scrap heap. as much as we would have liked to rewire it, belling werent interested in having it back. youd think theyd have some kind of “museum” or “belling thru the ages” room at their posh new showroom in enfield.

About 45 years old, built in Burrrrrnnley int old Burco factory 8)
She worked in the factory, which is probably why she stuck with it, even though the timer hasn’t worked for the last 20 years!

ParticipantPrehaps if you sell her that Hotpoint VTDOOP dryer in the background she will get 45 years out of that!

😆
Nope! Carrying on the theme of dryers built in the North, we just do the White Knight. I reckon a sweet old lady like her should get 20 years out of one of them?
I’ll never sell Merloni, except recons. That particular VTD00 is actually a head transplant into one of the recent models with the (slightly) re-enforced cabinet and tear-drop bearing. Letya avit for 50 squid if yawan?

Got home this evening to find a message on the answerphone.
Sounds like an older gentleman.“Hello. I’d just like to enquire whether you deal in second hand Creda Debonaire spin driers. If so perhaps you could give me a ring with a sort of price you might have on them.”
I just don’t quite know how to ring him back without bursting out laughing.
Maybe 💡 he got me mixed up with Goatboy

Went to a Hotpoint dishwasher this morning, model 6800 a Bosch machine, made in Germany, circa 1983.
The machine was dead, fault traced to a broken wire near door hinge which was easily repaired.
This was the very first breakdown of any kind on this machine, I told her to get on to the dealer and quote the SOG’s act, its just not fit for purpose 😆

Thats a forerunner of the early Hotpoint fridges, got to be over 45 years old at the very least. The compressor was a huge thing, slung on four springs, you could hardly hear them running. 8)

Ironically it now looks retro cool 8) Just stick a SMEG :rolls: badge on it & offer it for sale in John Lewis for £599 & they’d be selling like the proverbial hot biscuits :rolls:
Thats fashion for you though, keep anything long enough, thats what i tell the wifey about my clothes collection.. HANDS OFF ! 8)

Mike.Don’t be so supprised Mike, when I get one of those into the shop I can get as much as £75 for it depending on its condition… I’ve never sold one under £30.

That post of mine was a bit of an error, I hadn’t realised the name Debonaire had continued until so recently. My mum had one about 45 years ago. Me old man repaired it a few times with solid rivets and sheet aluminium (he was an aircraft fitter) when it went rusty. He kept it in the shed under a heap of other junk until he died, ’cause “the motor was still OK.”
I got the impression from the old chap on the ‘phone that he imagined I had a garage full of ancient spin dryers, and a fat roll of purple notes in me pocket.
There was a time about a decade ago when I did pick the odd one up for a fiver and flog it for £35. But it’s a bit of a niche market.
