Not wishing to put a damper on the meeting and this remark is not pointed at those members who have been to this or previous meetings, or to those that rang in with apologies. But – Ken tells me that we have around 350 trade members of this UKW forum and yet we were nearly outnumbered by guests from the parts supply and work providers. I for one spent seven hours on the road, lost a days work and was happy to be with friends and collegues. Others doubtless came from further away and some spent three days at the venue setting and clearing up. From humble beginings, this UKW has now got to the stage where it has teeth and the number of non-service company reps that attended qualify this point. The moderators and admin chaps do a wonderful job behind the scenes for us all and to quote Del when asked why he was wearing a tie ‘Well Ian, UKW is growing up’. If we want to be considered a professional group of players in this game, we must be seen to share the same commitment to our industry and UKW. The time has passed to leave it all to the others, as UKW becomes more powerful, so those holding the reins need more help to maintain the momentum. So to get to the point, we need more to join UKW subscribers forum and we need all of you to attend meetings otherwise the good work already done will be wasted. To the workers – thank you, to the shirkers – get your fingers out!

ParticipantHi D-E,
What you say is true up to a point, but consider the working of any club. All work on a 10{e5d1b7155a01ef1f3b9c9968eaba33524ee81600d00d4be2b4d93ac2e58cec2d} rule – ie 10{e5d1b7155a01ef1f3b9c9968eaba33524ee81600d00d4be2b4d93ac2e58cec2d} of any given membership will “do”, the other 90{e5d1b7155a01ef1f3b9c9968eaba33524ee81600d00d4be2b4d93ac2e58cec2d} will enjoy the benefits of their labour. It was ever thus, and will probably be so for ever!Bear in mind that our trade colleagues also have UKW membership priviledges and the assembled goup at the weekend was just about – – – -10{e5d1b7155a01ef1f3b9c9968eaba33524ee81600d00d4be2b4d93ac2e58cec2d}!
Considering the youthful nature of UKW (15 months) progress to date has been spectacular. Personally I wonder how many of the trade membership fully realise or appreciate the full scale of the group’s activities?
I joined looking for a bit of tech help, with absolutely no idea that there were things called work providers for instance – or some of the appalling things certain ones got up to!
It has certainly radically altered the way that I view our industry and how it will try to go forward. That said, there will be members whose needs from this site will always be simpler, bit of tech help, odd parts for strange machines and the like.
UKW will grow into a broad church of views, opinions, influence, offers, deals, work, comedians, grumps, watchers, doers, leaders etc.
If in a couple of years time the trade membership reaches 1000, I’ll lay money now that that meeting will have around 100 attending!
Your general point is absolutely sound though – Join – Subsribe – Participate!
Bets Regards,

KeymasterPenguin is absolutely correct on the figures Ian but the UKW meetings offers something that very few other meetings can, neutral and friendly ground. As many of the WP’s etc. found out we’re not out to flay them alive but to work with them toward a common goal, make service better for us and THEIR customers as well as ours. And I strongly believe that by working together we can all work towards and help one another toward that aim very well indeed and, at the same time, bring benefit to the people in this industry that are using UKW as it was intended to be used.
It is only too true that there are many that will sit on the sidelines and not participate and, frankly, that’s there loss as the contacts and advice gleaned from these meetings is invaluable IMHO.
I should have initial news on UKW4 in the next couple of weeks I hope but, as Martin said, the next one has already been being planned for a month or so and it’s set to be a topper. 😉

Well Ian,
What can I say, the Site has only been going just over a year now and last weekend was only the third national meeting of UKW, yet the profile of those in attendance could almost have read like a list from the Who’s Who directory of our industry. Especialy with regard to those in control of the UK Whitegoods Service, Repair, Insurance, Networks and Spares supply industries.
Don’t get disheartened in any way, just consider yourself very luky that you have enough sense to get yourself in on the ground floor. You have been able to see at first hand some of the ideas and aspirations for our industry from the admistrators/moderators/members of UKW.
I would like to thank all those who came to the meetings for thier valuable contributions towards making this the most inclusive, constructive and informative meeting so far.
It would be hard to see how UKW will be able to top this most recent meeting. But knowing Ken Watt as I do I have every reason to belive that if you thought this meeting was an ‘eye opener’ 😉 then the next one in Feb 95(2005 opps!) will be a ‘Jaw dropper’ 😯 !
Stick around Ian co’s you aint seen nothin’ yet ! 😆
Best regards as ever Del

KeymasterHeh, I just hope we can live up to the hype. 😕
At least we’re trying to achieve things and, hopefully, making some headway on a positive note.
But yeah, if I get my way, I’m only just getting started. 😉

KeymasterThe minutes of the meeting from Friday are now available for download from Downloads/UKW Meetings/Minutes, you’ll get the idea as I re-organised it so it made a lot more sense to find that stuff.
Sorry for the delay, they would have been there sooner had it not been for bleary eyes, sore heads and a busy Monday! 😆

To be serious for a moment, I wish to congratulate you Ken and naturally Dave, Kevin and of course Del. For the well organised meetings, their content and the professionalism you guys have adopted in getting these meetings together in their entirety.
Also for the speed in which you published the minutes in detail (in various formats) onto the site, is quite amazing….WELL DONE GUYS 🙂
And a message addressed to those unfortunate enough not to be able to attend the last meeting….check out the minutes please, they will tell you a lot about what is going on and indeed an insite into what the future has in store 😉

KeymasterThank you Martin it’s nice to know that our efforts do not go unnoticed as we do try as best we can.
Dave did the minutes this time around, superbly and as you rightly say, very quickly as well and Kevin did his usual superb chairing of the meeting. So big thanks to those two.
