Seconded, I can’t say that I like the new site. Sorry but since the change I don’t use it much now. I don’t find it that easy on the eyeballs.:hide:

Im all for progression if its a benefit but tbh im struggling with this layout. The old version wasn’t swish looking granted but was so much easier on the eyes and everything was easy to find. Maybe its my age and eyes thats the problem? i dunno but is there a way for 2 versions, old and new ?

As I said nothing is forever. So who is there out there that wants a return to Win3.1 I still have a Sinclair Spectrum in my loft, you never know!
It is a case of getting used to it.

I still have a zx81 in mine, we are all entitled to an opinion, like i said ‘im all for change’ its not unreasonable to voice an opinion and ask a question where something is changed aesthetically that some don’t find as good as what was before.
Its been answered there isn’t the ability to work the two together so its a case of making do !

Yeah, yeah, change is good and new things take time to suss out the different buttons needed to press in order to get it to work. Change for change sake though best avoided, like for example up-dating the latest Adobe Acrobat or from IE7 to IE8. Each subsequent Adobe upgrade worse than the previous and a bu77er to figure out how to use it. So ‘if it ain’t broke then don’t mend it’ is for sure the best poilcy to adobt I reckon.
As far as UKW2 is concerned…well it does look better I suppose, it’s great that the public forums are well out of site now and ‘Serena the Quickwash’ has cleared off. The search needs a lot of fine tuning for damn sure as I too cannot figure it and have had little success on that score. I have a chuffing great big widescreen monitor in front of me yet the forums only sit in the centre third of my screen, big blank sky blue void sits either side.
Currently (for some reason I can’t as yet suss) I cannot add pictures to my post from my hard drive? What is meant by ‘Industry Matters’? Why is the WTA sat in isolation from the trade forums? What’s the difference between a Post icons and Smilies?……I’m sure that in the fullness of time and the patience to succeed I will answer my own questions. Old dog, new tricks and all that good stuff.
The thing is that it’s Ken’s site, he pays for it, he calls the shots. So if it will work for him then I am more than happy to work with what I can get from it and be ever grateful. My only concern right now is that (as I was the OP of this thread) lots of former contributors are no longer around or can be observed viewing the site when traditionally they did. So, either they have got cheesed off with the new format or suffered a greater destiny?
(Now as I type the ruddy screen scrolls up a few paragraphs? And I have to grab the scroll bar to see what I’ve typed. The the moment I press a key the sodding screen scrolls back up again…..!!!)
That’s it then, in fear I’ve gotta type this whole lot again I’d better chance hitting the ‘Submit’ button…..here goes….

The screen size is regulated by the template for the entire site, this is an absolute necessity I’m afraid for publishing as everything remains uniform and you can see how it looks on any screen. The old site had, to a point, a variable width on it, this is nor will be, possible to do again and wouldn’t be regardless of what I did as the former, above, overrides the few users that find the lack of variable widths a problem.
The trade forums I changed to “General Trade Forums” and therefore having a forum within the trade section with the same name just looked b00dy stupid frankly. If anyone can come up with something better, feel free.
I have no idea why you can’t upload pics Martin. But I just added you to the trade group so you should be able to as that group has permissions.
Permissions has been and still as at times, wrecking my life.
Post icons, icons used in the post topic.
Smilies are within the content of the post.
I do listen but as I’ve said comments like “I don’t like the layout”, “I can’t find stuff” without absolute specifics I can do not a thing about.
If I change it to red, people will complain. We had orange, we got complaints. We go green, we’ll get complaints.
Basically, the way I see it, some people will just never be happy and that’ll pretty much be that and very few, if any, will be completely happy.
All I can do is try to fix the bits I can.
But do bear in mind that the old site was up since 2004 with a facelift in 2005 (people moaned about that as well) and it was developed over the six years from that point.
The paint’s not even dry on this one…

Overall, I think it is a big improvement, one or two very minor quibbles but once you work out a routine it is quite easy to scan the forums for new posts etc.
Shame about V Bulletin though, I would have loved a red rep button. :stir:
And if a sixty plus old git like me can find my way around you young un’s should be able to get to grips with it given time. 8)Jim.

Shut it you! 😆
That was not going to work out so well. Much fluffing about trying to make it work proved that it was a far from ideal solution. 🙁
On the upside, I might make some changes in a bit to try to address what I think some people are getting at, but it’s like shooting fish in a barrel… blindfolded… in the dark… with a dodgy pistol. :rolls:
