…. well I like it ……. no the search doesn’t work as well as it should but that’s just a good excuse to write a new post,and usually within that new post some more information arises.For example how many times have hotpiont w/m drums/bearings been talked about? Hundreds I expect .Well the other day I found out that they had made the belt conducive because they suspected that static build up was making the bearings fail quicker.Now if it isn’t a positive that it gets people talking more (which surely is the whole reason for ukwg site)then I don’t know what is 😉

i think theres a few on here who need to remember what it feels like when you get an awkward customer who stands over you all teh time. is already irritated their machines bearings have gone. not your fault, your only there to fix it. and gradually gets more and more hacked off as you spend 4 hours replacing them because half the bearing casing its wedged in the tub.
thats kinda how i would imagine ken must feel about the site.
repairs in some areas may be down, but ask yourself why is that?
round here repairs are all thats going on and we have a shop too. if it wasnt for the repairs we’d be sunk. i dont beleive in the poorer areas people are giving up on repairs, it defies logic if your on a shoestring.
people on here have been slating y/pages and thomson and bt etc but think about it, if you need a repair where as a client would you look? theres still a lot of traditional people who havent got internet…

Mm , The site seems unintuitive compared with the old layout, I find myself continually looking at sections and postings which look like hard work to navigate. Is it just me or are others finding the new site harder work than the old one ? By the way I am in now criticising the hard work thats gone it to especially as this has all been provided for us but its merely an observation on my part.

mm ! I have just been looking around the site as I had not done fully before posting my last remarks, its not as bad as I thought just needs me to get used to it and since i got back of holiday I have not really had chance to give it a fair go !

I think the site reflects the attitude many have in our industry towards new appliances.
That being those who miss the good old days of reliability comparing anything new as being crap that constantly breaks, when in fact that is somewhat clouding.
The fact is, its the same old story as before, just different.
I remember my 1st day as an apprentice listening to my boss and the client moaning about how they don’t make things the same as they used to, and that was 20 yrs ago, I still hear the same moan today.
The site change is the same as a new Washing Machine, nothing really has changed, maybe presented differently, but it should not pose to much of an issue to a person used to thinking on there feet, but there are some who will walk through the door, see the new item and instantly become negative.
Not a good approach, if that ever happens to me, I’ll will hang up my tools and retire to a beach.
Never get used to anything, because everything changes.;)

The last several postees have lost the overall gist of this thread. Where’s everybody gone was intended to question ‘Where have all the trade members gone?’ my observation at the time I posed the question was that since the site revamp we have lost imput from many trade members.I’m sure the site statistics will prove otherwise.
It’s midsummer so maybe loads of members are enroute to warmer locations cruising the Med or damping a line off the pier in Blackpool. Yeah, that’s why…they’ll be back soon enough I shouldn’t wonder. 😀

martin if your lonely im sure we could aRRANGe for a few hugs, ps i wasnt aiming my post at your knowledgeable self, i was merely trying to find somewhere comfortable to sit on the fence. plus, is it possibly indicative of how busy your trade mates are if they arent able to spend time on here ???

Wheres everybody gone? Well I’m still here but only just. this site is now so slow its a real effort to use it. any chance it will ever run at the old speed?

it might be an idea to move tech trade inq to top spot as this is the main area – ? then gen forum – off top trade spares etc ..
this originaly threw me off as i couldnt find tech trade inq as it was below the screen fold ..
i now know where it is but still forget its there as it isnt visible..

Try updating your browser to the latest version wilf. Did that the other day and this site as well as others are much improved speed wise. 😉
