I guess Martin he wants to record the call while he’s talking .He can then listen back at a convenient time and get all the relevant info ie name, address , tel. I’ve just had a quick look on the market and there are apps on there but it says they record from the mike .I guess it would have to be on loud speaker . I will have another look later and try one out because I think it would be handy to have that . I’ll let you know

Yeah. Got a Parrot hands free….nice piece of kit but it does`nt record calls incoming or outgoing whilst i`m driving.
What I mean is record the call whilst I`m in conversation rather than trying to scribble something on a notepad and drive as well.

There used to be software you could load which would record a conversation as it was taking place then when you stopped driving you could listen to it.It was really usefull but I can

    Re: Which Smartphone ?

I’ve had another look on the market and all the apps record by turning your mic on which is not ideal for me .So I digged a bit deeper and come across xda developers site where they claim to of cracked it but they started talking about kernals and firmware adjustments it got to deep for me .
So for now I dont think its possible for the average joe.

From what I read it seems a common problem Iphone included and the reason seems to be because it is ilegal to record a call in certain countries.
I would like to know if anyone does have this function on a smart phone.

    Re: Which Smartphone ?

To record call I use ALON mp3 player, been using it for the last 6yrs, works on all Nokia smartphones or symbian 3 phones.
You can rename all the recording in reverse date order that way the list of recordings acts as an itinery of your jobs. eg 11032310 FY2 S68EX01 – 23rd March 2011 10.00am, Postcode FY2, Single electrolux oven, quote 68, fan running no heat.
With the Iphone it is impossible to record calls (at the moment)unless use route calls through a third party server, then they charge you to access the recordings.

    Re: Which Smartphone ?

See, for me, there’s this little thing known as iOS, some of you might have heard about it.

It’s a whole lot smarter and more integrated than Android IMO and is available on some really nice kit you may have heard of, you know, like an iPhone or an iPad from that little company in Cupertino known as Apple.

Where Android falls short and is, in my own personal opinion, just a cheap “wannabe” is that it doesn’t have the integration of MobileMe or anywhere near the seamless functionality of the service. Doesn’t have the backup regime. Doesn’t seem to be as responsive or intuitive (yes, I have used both) and simply doesn’t look as nice.

Not only that but, as part of the deal with iOS you get stuff like synch’d calendars, contacts, mail, bookmarks, apps and so on with not only other iOS devices but with laptops and desktops as well. You enter stuff once, on anything you own and it all just automagically synch’s and just, well, works.

Not that I’d put anyone off Android of course, I’m sure it’s just dandy for a lot of people, just not me. I can’t be doing with the hassle and heartache of making it work the way I want, I prefer stuff just to work round me, not the other way round.

I would love to use an iphone just there is no way of recording the calls, not even posible using the unofficial firmware.

    Re: Which Smartphone ?

That’s because without warning people it’s illegal under the DPA. 😉

In many countries it’s just illegal, full stop.

    Re: Which Smartphone ?

I’ve been very quiet on this as I know I’m accused of being an Apple Fanboy and, quite rightly too. For good reason on many occasions although Apple isn’t perfect (far from it) they do put the user interface first.

But that’s not the reason for this post.

Owing to a little project I’ve become embroiled in of late despite no time to actually be involved in it, I’ve had the opportunity to use an Android based tablet or two. I’ve also got, sat beside me, an iPhone4 (which you will prise from my cold dead hands until the next one arrives) and an iPad2 as well as an iPad first generation and a Samsung Galaxy tab.

I shut up until I actually could have an opinion. 😉

Can I just say this and, I’m the third person in the company to say EXACTLY the same thing…

The Apple products are more expensive and, the high cost of initial purchase is a big turn-off for a lot of people but…

They kick Android’s a$$ up and down the park all day long, every day.

They’re easier to develop on, better to use and present a far, far superior user experience.

So, you may well be all chuffed with your cheap Samsung things running Android but, IMO, it’s not even close to what it actually should be as an experience for you.

I will admit to be hyper-critical about this stuff though as I use it so much. I will also admit to being what is considered to be an Apple power user. But then, I used Windows solely until about four years ago or so until I saw the light and converted to the “other side”. 😆

The dev iPad2, there’s not a hope in hell that’s going anywhere at all but into my personal collection of “can’t live without” devices until the next generation arrives. It is, without doubt, the tablet to have if that’s your bag.

The Galaxy or the Zeen, well I’d give that to the kids as a toy… I think that says it all.

Android phones. Slow. Poor user interface, confusing and not as intuitive. App store from hell. But on the plus side, they are cheap and if you haven’t been using smartphones since the old Nokia things when they introduced Symbian and, before that the old Palms etc. with Palm OS then you’d probably think it was the greatest creation since sliced bread. IMO however as a long time user of mobile devices and probably one of the biggest critics of PDAs etc, it’s really not that brilliant… yet.

Google however aren’t a company for letting things lie and they’ve just had a big developer conference with some really interesting stuff in it for Android’s future. If they pull it all off it might become more attractive and maybe even pretty cool.

For the time being however, I’ll stick with my Apple stuff. Far slicker, far better experience, easier to use and there’s so much more depth to them.
