It’s something to do with your connection or IT Wilf as it’s flying here with no issues at all.

Work here was slow over Easter half term but busying up nicely now, I seem to be getting quite alot of customers buying their own parts online and asking for them to be fitted at labour cost only.

Not to bad here, tend to do a lot of titled work in castles met Kyle Minogue (is that how you spell it) in one.
Customer Bosch dbl oven no heat from fan oven so he went out and bought element still no heat thats where I came in.
Blow’n element took out the multi function switch, tend to charge a wee bit more in the case of DIY. Important thing is the customer was over the moon.

hi all..
first time posting on this site.Ive been selfemployed fixing appliances for 27 years originaly hotpoint trained …been good…but I do see the work tailing off for the last few years with the private domestic market, where they are buying spares online , and expect a professional service for silly money , so I tend to stick with estate agents that manage property, they call me and I fix and invoice ..simple !!!! no quibbling over time spent, call charges, free estimates, cant be dealing with that now, seems householders with chuck a perfectly good miele away ( with little fault) as they keep telling me they cant find an engineer that repairs miele..!! how bazaar..and they go and buy a crappy hotpoint instead.

hi all , just to let you guys know whats goin on over here in de emerald isle , this has been the quitest week in about 4 years for me , last week was much busier , then again everyone is back from hols , money spent , pockets empty , i expect it to pick up big time next week , in general its busy 4 to 5 calls every day , mind you everyone is asking now how much is the call out?,…. ok can i get back to you ! i have found that the domestic calls are dwindleing , most of my work comes from independent retailers giving my name and property management companies , long live the students may they break every appliance they encounter hurrah !!!

For me the biggest loss of income has been from the demise of the repairable drum assembly 😥 Had 3 customers on the phone with failed sealed drums this week alone, all of them decided to scrap when I explained what was involved.
So thats a loss in turnover of more than £200, fan oven elements are down to a couple a month now compared with at least 2 or 3 a week, it all adds up to a loss of many thousands over the year 🙁It’s a shame, I would miss this game if it comes to the stage where the towel simply has to be thrown in, there’s only so long you can live off your savings though 😕

Well it has not picked up this week, 2 Calls Yesterday and 1 today ! bloody dire at the moment, mind you the local pubs and eating houses are chocka most nights so people do have money but we seem to be seeing a large downturn not only in calls but also in the phones ringing in the first place !
Hows everyone else finding it ???

Mine’s got a flashing red light. Helps a lot.
Seriously though, I just realised recently how much I’m being ripped off for calls to mobiles from landline. So I’m now trying a new strategy. Whenever I need to call back someone who’s left a message with only a mobile, I send them a text asking them to call me back in a specified time window with make model and fault details all to hand. Sorry, bit off topic but you need to use every trick to cut outgoings when times are hard.

Get an icard sim, uses the Vodafone network and calls are only 5p/min.

Thanks Walnut, looks good, I’ll give it a go. I’ll still send out texts though, it’s nice to have peeps call me back with all the details I need and not hang around while they faff about looking for the model no. 😀
Hmm. thinking maybe I could use this method when I want to contact Connect.
“Hello, this is …. a/c no. … Please could you call me back on ….. between 2pm and 2.05pm today with the part number and your best price for the door seal on a ..etc. ”
I’ll write the draft in my phone now. 😉
Ah, just realised, I’d ideally need a mobile number for them. Now how can I get round that?
Anybody from Connect reading this? How about it?
