Sailing back across the Bay of Biscay as I type, weather has been great for two weeks but we are promised some ‘motion on the ocean’ in next 24 hours. 😯
Sailor Jim.A man after my own heart, a sailor.
So if you have been away for two weeks then you are not a “Booze Cruiser”
And if you are on a “Huge ship”, I guess that may be Pont Aven?
And you either hate flying (like me). Have a dog or a motorhome or a motorbike or just prefer motoring over flying?Or…. I am completely wrong and you have been on one of those cheap cruises?
Hope you had a great trip?

Arrive home to a burnt out answerphone, I suppose I should be grateful but it soon takes the edge off your holiday. 😥
Still it all helps to pay for the next cruise. 8)
Might space them out a bit from now on, four in 13 months is going it a bit but after over 5 years without I break we were due some R&R.
Just done the Med. again on Royal Caribbean’s Independence of the Seas, the 160,000 ton+ mega ship, one of the three Freedom class ships that are the biggest on the ocean, that is until Oasis of the Seas makes her maiden voyage at the end of the year.
I quite like flying but the wife is not keen, I had to book the cruise we did last May without telling her, round the Eastern Med. on Celebrity Solstice so had to fly to Rome. 😉

While I wish you all well with your Businesses, it is nice to know I am not the only one suffering from lack of work!

Just wondering what happened to this thread? At the time it began, T.T. E.’s was at a low ebb. Now it’s moving so fast it’s difficult to keep up with it. What happened? Does anyone have a credible theory? One maybe that we could test by asking it to predict the next low point?
Would be useful for planning future holidays. 😀

Well, we are quieter than ever.
One major work supplier has reduced our are down to just one post code, suggesting we are too expensive.
Nothing wrong with our quality or level of service, that we already know.
However, when they ask us to go back and mop up after our replacements, its pretty clear why they are so cheap. They can’t do the job with inexperienced kids or arrogant old blokes on £5 an hour.

I think a lot of people are making do for the time being.
I went to a fridge that was bust and they asked about the tumble dryer which had a broken handle, they asked I gave a price and they declined as there ok using the knife to open it.
Also had a call cancel today, they rang on Thursday stating there oven isn`t heating, they cancelled today saying “they tried it over the weekend and now its working, I wish we`d tried early as we`ve been months without it”
I believe getting close to xmas may pick up a bit.

My last week was really good until FRIDAY 13TH, blew head gasket on the van and £300 bill and not completed until next Monday 😥
Still, I was going to have a week off in December but brought it forward for decorating and tax return 😥
So, yes, Worst week ever

I’m finding i get one good week followed by two dead ones in a continuous cycle 😯 seriously hoping i can hold out for better times ahead but i’ve got to say i’m actually pretty worried about the future now.. savings will only last for so long 🙁
If i’m looking at the same level of work this time next year i really dont see me doing this in 2011 😥November 16, 2009 at 11:50 pm #291746kwatt

It appears to be hit and miss TBH, some people are busy enough, some more than usual and some, sadly, seem to be experiencing a downturn of some sort. There seems to be no rhyme or reason to why in any event.
Sales are pretty much the same.
Whether it’s people not spending or what, there seems to be no logical explanation for whatever is going on ATM. Some industries there’s a more marked downturn than others if it’s any consolation and major electricals seem to be taking a battering as the house market also takes a beating as the two are joined at the hip.
But, you have to bear in mind that, especially with warranty repairs, that we’re six months behind so, we can see it coming to some extent. It has happened exactly the same way in the past where we get an upturn when times are especially hard and a downturn when they are especially good. Right now, goodness knows what it actually is given the conflicting reports.
As to the seasonal drifts, here’s how it goes IME…
January – good for most in the aftermath and feel good factor
February – not as good as the credit card bills from Xmas hit the matts
March – okay but starts to slow because of above and Easter hols loom
April – dead as a doorpost the first week or two, England goes to Spain
May – picks up, wouldn’t be hard
June – full blown holiday season starts
July – refrigeration picks up as they fail, all the rest slow
August – Whoo hoo, schools back in Scotland, normality and traffic returns
September – England gets back to normal as well
October – weird month, hard to call
November – Xmas panickers start to creep out the woodwork, picks up
December – just mental… the world ends on the 24th apparentlyOver the winter you concentrate on drying and cooking.
Summer is fridge season. Just before Xmas is good for them too as people can’t live without them working.
Washing machines remain an all-year round sport.
The offsets on different product groups help, a lot, to keep life balanced and without the spread of skills you will experience droughts of work I’d think.
Simplistic summary, but I hope you get the idea.

Dead on regarding the skill set.
I often wonder how those that only repair washers and T/D’s survive. Although the sight of certain fully integrated dishwashers make the heart sink, they do pay the bills. 🙂
