ParticipantRe: AEG ARCTIS 75238-GA1 Freezer problem
Another update.
I asked the Service Force technician if it would be worthwhile re-gasing/oiling the freezer to rule out a leak before he fits the compresssor.
It turned out the compressor he had was the wrong one for this model anyway, and he agreed to pressure test the system and re-gas.
48 hours later and the freezer seems to be running fine. Looks like I their initial diagnosis of a ‘burnt-out’ compressor may have been a little premature.
Lets see how we go.

ParticipantRe: AEG ARCTIS 75238-GA1 Freezer problem
I had the Service Force technician out today and after making a visual inspection , his description of the fault is “Evaporator low frostline due to weak compressor”.
He said the compressor needs changing (£165.52, and £140.87 with some discount) – £220 all in.
AEG won’t offer any contribution for the part with it being over 2 years old (3 and a bit years) apart from delivering me a new discounted freezer for £400.
Thanks for the info though.
Cheers.

Thanks for the reply.
After being off for 48 hours, I switched it back on today at around 6pm and it steadily decreased in temperature to about -14 at around 9pm.
I heard the alarm a few moments ago and it’s up to -11.
Could this still be the fan motor?
Thanks again.

ParticipantJust an update on this. I plumbed for the AEG matching larder fridge and tall freezer. They were delivered on th 15th of August and installed around a week ago.
Yesterday I noticed the temperature of the fridge was on 10 degrees. It was pre-set to 5degrees. I tried switching it off and back on, but no change. The compressor doesn’t seem to be kicking in. The water evaporator was almost full of water.
I telephoned the AEG service centre this morning at 08:30 and they said they’d send somone round sometime on Monday.
Cleaned up my very old LEC fridge freezer that has been stood outside for a week and it started up no problem.
Just hope I don’t have re-occuring problems with the AEG!

ParticipantRe: AEG Larder Fridge warm (S72348KA1)
I got their contact details from the AEG website and they’re coming on Monday, but I just wanted to know if there’s anything simple that could maybe resolve the problem, i.e. leaving ot swtiched off for 24 hours etc.
I’m really not clued up on white goods :rolls:
Thanks 😉

ParticipantThanks expertcat, what you say makes sense.
I remember going shopping for appliances with my dad when I was a kid and my dad wouldn’t buy things if they were “too light” 😆 And he’d pay the extra to get things that he knew would last. Like you say, those days are largely gone.
I guess I’ll go with my initial impression, and that is that the AEG feels heavier :rolls: 😆 so thats what I’ll go for!
Thanks again 😉

ParticipantThanks for your reply Don.
How do the Hotpoint range compare against the AEG ones in terms of quality/longevity?
Thanks!
