That was a bit disingenuous Martin!

Poor guy asked a reasonable question, the fact he may have been auditioning for a Top Gear presenter’s job has little to do with the original question.

Back to the question, they were always very good. Servevast (call/spares provider) may have been behind sometimes, but excellent support, and product not bad either.

    K.

If you mean Dave Coombes, he has been out the loop a couple of years now.

My last involvement with DASA was three years ago, and Dave went not too long after. I won’t go into details but another Dave caused huge damage, and sadly DC let it happen as he was struggling on is own with pressures, internal wrangling and health issues.

Anyway, when I was on council, right up to my retirement Phil Beddoes hadn’t shown any interest. He may have done since, but knowing how flaky the guy is, not likely.

Wasn’t in my time at DASA. Neither was Graham Chandler who was his boss at Rangemaster. When Phil went to Maurice Lay there wasn’t any relationship either. He was supposed to show at a National Service Convention back when DASA was on the up – under the stewardship of Steve Debeger – but he failed to show.

Pains me to say this, but I suspect DASA is only too pleased to accept anyone and fall into bed with them accordingly.

When Ken & I were lads, Candy Gias had their own service network. Taken them over 15 years to fail to realise what they had at their disposal. Tee Hee.

Phil Beddoes incidentally some may know him. Once worked for Aga Rangemaster, then became service manager for the Caple (Maurice Lay) network. He’s older than I am, and ought to be put out to grass. He isn’t really a shifter and mover either, so full of Crap his eyes are brown!

    Re: Service Force Bournemouth

Yes I put it the War Room as I didn’t want to go public without some substantiated info. Would be nice to do some “kite flying” but I’m best keeping a low profile.

The owner (Martin Benham, tosser to the extreme) was on the fiddle. Basically among other things including poor service he was selling back to Lux more than he was buying, and that was not because he bought elsewhere. They made a visit to him and dropped some stuff in front of him asking for an explanation. Seems like that he threw in the towel on the spot.

He lost Beko about 3 years ago, and they were the best payers when I was a S/F agent. D&G had approached an independent (Christchurch Domestic) and asked them to undertake Lux work.

That would never have happened in Alan Steward’s time. So in my opinion the “High Value Service Criteria” and the reputation we all respected with S/F is now called into question. After all they are only as good as their worst agent.

As I suspected JTM are doing the warranty work, God help everyone!!

    Re: Service Force Bournemouth

It seems (as yet) Respond hasn’t been approached? The S/F agent in Aberdeen threw in the towel and SF have had to use JTM.

Point is as you say Ken, there might not be anyone on hand to take it on when you consider size of area, population and the criteria that needs to be adhered to. Then there are the staff, unless S/F get on with finding a replacement the existing staff will become displaced.

I don’t think there is anyone down there who could take it on, Whirlpool for example are using their Bristol agent.

    Re: Revisiting good old Vinyl.

Electrofix & Kwatt: I get what you mean, digital is so bloody convenient but as you suggest Ken it is rather flat. Vinyl is sound laid down on a sine wave, whereas digital is coded as on/off/on/off etc. At least that is how I look at it.

The cost of albums can be outrageous, but perhaps the recoding studios are no longer geared up for analogue technology. FOR EXAMPLE

I use Spotify on the odd occasion, Youtube if I want to preview something and there is an excellent download site for free stuff…. MP3Juices

Then I have CD albums everywhere, put loads of MP3 onto a 16gb memory stick for the car.

One thing seems odd with the old fashioned vinyl, I have to get out the seat to turn it over, or adjust the volume. Keeps me fit.

    Re: Revisiting good old Vinyl.

It is amazing how much vinyl is selling for as well. I suspect the dealers might be jumping onto a bandwagon propagated by nostalgic old farts.

Once I went to CD I started buying digital versions of what was on my vinyl collection I had put away. Then I built up a fair collection of old stuff on CD, and now I’m looking at some of that and trying to get vinyl copies of such things as Steve Miller Band, Eagles (Hotel California), The Doors John Lee Hooker, BB King etc. Crazy really.

I like it. Just popped it onto two computers, painless and quite intuitive. Only took minutes to download (Fibre @ 70mb/s minimum)

The new browser opened a Bing Search engine, then when I searched & opened UKW it actually came up in Chrome. Assume that is due to a recognised link/cookie.

This now explains why I have been getting PM’s from Martin as in “who is Lee8? So to piss Martin off I’ve told him I have a name but won’t let him in on the secret.

I have to say, as much as our mate Lee rattles some us us, I do like his riposte to Martin….

lee8 wrote:Martin you need to stop with this endless quest to make me look like a knob. My user name here is not my name, it’s my DOB generated in a sequence that spells out lee8. Somebody obviously not man enough, has a small Penis and likely plays with himself whilst looking at photos of trains. Too much of a pussy to register their UKW user name, the one thing I’m not afraid of is insulting people, l did not write those comments and have no knowledge or interest in bad mouthing ISE, the guilty idiot is obviously too much a pussy to admit it, likely has access to ISE or is an agent, if they want, the next meeting we could hook up and l’ll gladly smack him senseless around the room, l hate pussiess.

    Richard.

At last! We are about the same age, and I suppose about time too, but I never thought you would finally do it.

We go back a long way, we cut our teeth on 3224/3226 Keymatics, Hoover Juniors and of course twin-tubs. Then we all went “foreign” with the L-2, S128, 218 then the good old Washcraft 918/919 etc. My how times have changed!

We used to meet at the bar in the good old Zanussi days when there were the meetings with Alan Steward, John Dugdale, George Dorman (I think) and other names from Caversham Road whom I have long since forgotten.

I remember with affection the “gang of four” at meetings, Phil Dill and I endeavoured to keep the momentum flowing.

I’m glad you took the plunge. I went my own way nearly two years ago, my golf has improved dramatically, my piece of mind has improved, there is no such thing as stress, and every day is a Saturday.

All the best, and if you are ever this way, give me a nudge on this site and I’ll buy you a drink.
