Rolls Concorde & Rapide twin tubs
Imperial washing machines, made by Zanussi 1970 ish. Then the L1 & L2 in 1973 & 1974
3236H & 3243H Matchbox range Hoover machines were the latest thing.
Cut my teeth on the 3334 twin tub and progressed to the 3314L that used to leak from the spin can where it was sealed onto the top frame. 3224H Sloping front keymatic.
I could go on all day.

Wanna laugh.
Got a fax on Thursday from B/Gas asking us to fit a door seal to a W/Dryer. On the header was a phone number, their job number, all the job details and a BER limit of £200.
Type in customer details, and there she is from 2001 when we last visited as a B.G. agent and she was out, so had left a bill for abortive call. I remember at the time B.G. had pre-booked the call nearly a week before the appointment date they offered and she had subesequently cancelled the call with them. Naturally B.G. at the time did not want to know, as they felt we should have phoned the customer to confirm the visit. So I wrote it off.
So back to the present, I phoned her up and told her what was going on, and said I would order her a gasket, and we will see her Monday 21st. 2 hours later she phoned us up and said B.G. had called that afternoon. Sounds a bit like the posting in the public forums the other day, dunno if it was the same one.
You can guess what I done the next day can’t you. Yep, I phoned them up just after 8 a.m. and collected a credit card payment, the £30 for last time, plus another £30 for my time & effort ordering a seal and having to accept the cancellation of the appointment after all my work. Another £30 + the vat of course.
Not bad, but add it all up, and I feel that lot was justified; and I would do it again.

It is when the old man says “I dunno what’s wrong, It’s the wife’s machine” Bet he bought her an iron for Christmas.
Another is when they leave teenage kids in charge.
No 1 You have to get them out of bed.
No2 They attempt to lead you to the machine. Aware it is in the back of the house somewhere.
No3 They’ve found the machine, but didn’t know there was anything wrong at all, let alone what.

AlexHah and thats where I live ! just at the top ! (canning Circus ) a good time for insomnia !
I can picture it now, old shops with wire mesh in the windows. Hyson Green down the bottom as well as Gregory Boulevard & Lenton Boulevard. Daughter had a student flat opposite the entrance to Asda and the alleyway would be littered with needles & condoms. Area by the Goose fair park & ride is a bit tidier now though since the trams were added.

2 choices there then, either “knock the job up” to get over the £140, or give the guy a better price.
I’ve had a suspicion for some time, but as yet failed to catch them in the act. They have to make money from somewhere, and we all know there is no money in warranty or insurance work, especially if fixed fee servicing.
You can bet they will pull the same stunt on Rangemaster.

I like Nottingham,
Me too, in the old Hotpoint days, the training school for the ‘top half’ of the country was right next to the Notts County football ground.Had many enjoyable days & nights 😉 in Nottingham.
I know where you mean, not far from the T.B.I. Daughter No 2 used to work there for GDA before moving onto better things. Still lives in the Notts area.
Daughter No 1 went to university there, and always seemed to find accommodation on a top floor somehere, and nowhere to park. Best place she ever stayed was Peel Street, overlooking the Abouretum.

Thats the problem I have here , there are no affluent customers , all i’m doing is struggling with students and people who want washing machines for say £ £60 and expect the earth ? then moan at the slightest fault ? its hardly worth my time and effort , oh well ……all in the day of an engineer !!That surprises me, are you doing all your work in Hyson Green or St Annes?
What’s wrong with West Bridgford, Gamston, Woolaton, even Arnold & Sherwood?
I like Nottingham, lots of trees & parks, 1st class tram system, Selectadisc (best record store I’ve ever been in), good restaurants in Mansfield Road, brilliant nightlife. Bit dodgy in some places, and high crime rate. No different than anywhere else.
Not up north though, East Midlands. Even York is less than half way up the U.K.
You will get used to it Duck.

It is commonly known that a bank will give out a loan like a borrowed umbrella, handed out freely, but 1st sign of rain & they want it back again.

iadom wrote:what about changing the relay, I’m sure CPC will stock a suitable replacement.
Would be very interested to know what the ‘knock on effect’ is other than requiring a new board. Have you seen evidence of other damage caused by the ‘blob of solder’ fix to anything other than the board itself Alex?
Jim.Changing the relay on the board makes sense, provided the properties & specification is the same.
Regards the “blob of solder”. Yes; and where it has lead to peripheral heat damage, they have had a repair carried out by someone before we get involved.

ParticipantRe: AEG DW not heating
The joint on the board interface melts due to local heat transmitted from the relay iteself. Rather like a fuse melting in fact. Not designed that way, but if the soldered spot a repairer adds is too big, the whole board itelf may fail in a big way, and cause a knock on effect. In essence the contacts on the relay are not holding, therefore transmitting heat down the tails of the relay itself.
Soldering is not a fix, all it does is remove the breakdown point briefly.
Bit like changing a 5 amp fuse for a 13, the level of protection is somewhat compromised.
