    Re: Cheek Of IT!

The guy Luke said to try and compensate for the situation he would be happy to link to my site in his recommended sites section. I declined, thanking him but saying I wouldn’t expect him to do that because at the end of the day if he’s trying to build a forum then linking to an established one doing the same thing would be competing with his.

There are other potential explanations for why your email was not answered K. I have no idea, but possibilities I can think of include –

He never received it. If it contained a lot of example links it could have got trashed or maybe it was sent to an address no longer used
He received it but didn’t know how to deal with it – maybe he panicked and put head in sand
He received it but it had a tone that didn’t incline him to respond

I’m only speculating but try and cover all possibilities with my speculation. He didn’t reply to my email either though it wasn’t sent to the luke@, which did get a response. My impression is that Ade actually talked to him and helped resolve this issue.

    Re: Cheek Of IT!

I’m managed to get contact with the guy, who appears to be a genuine guy who maybe made an error of judgement when setting it up. He’s already removed all my 10 articles I found so far, and is happy to remove any other plagiarised content reported to him.

    Re: Cheek Of IT!

I’ve found 10 articles up to now taken from whitegoodshelp dryerhelp and washerhelp. I suspect he used them in the early days to get things going. I’ve sent an email.

Maybe we need to join up and expose them with some posts? They will remove them but they can’t deny they didn’t see them.

    Re: Cheek Of IT!

If they are hosting it using their own physical servers in their own premises (which I doubt very much) they maybe can ignore it, but if they are using any service provider looking after the server or renting the servers etc then a complaint to that company will usually get results.

It’s also against terms and conditions when registering a domain name to with-hold your address and punishable by having the domain name taken off you. Only exception is if it’s an individual but this is very clearly a business carrying advertising etc.

Chances are you’ll find a lot more of your stuff, I’ve already found several of mine. It looks like the site has been built at least initially by plagiarising content.

The annoying thing is they are ranking very high for terms stolen from my sites, not higher than me but high enough to get traffic. There’s Google ads on the site too so they can be reported to google adsense,

Loads of stuff about how to deal with it to be found searching google for

reporting plagiarised content stolen from your website

As if we haven’t enough on our plate 🙁

They have ripped off my work too K. I shall be making an official complaint to their hosting company

    Nigel.

Definitely not. I would put money on them winning in a small claims court that the machine hasn’t lasted a reasonable time. Plenty of cases where people have won claims for bearings failing much later than that.

It used to be for 10 years after ceasing production but it’s been reduced in line with shorter life spans. I always thought it was some sort of law to protect consumers but I think it’s more like a voluntary code.

Hoover used to stick to it but only on vital parts. I remember they used to do tricks like produce a range of vacuum cleaners with half a dozen different colour options but after a few years you could only get the main casings and bag door fronts in dark brown. At least they were still available but it didn’t go too well with some of the original colours.

It’s a great way of skirting round the obligation to supply spare parts for so many years. Just make them so expensive no one in their right mind would ever want one. Problem solved. Its so obvious it’s a joke. Bring back the days when manufacturers used the same parts for many years because they just worked and did the job.
