Thanks for everyone’s advice.

Tried swapping the knobs, but didn’t work. I assume that crown seating means making sure that the crown and support are on properly, which they are. Mix sounds like something gas-related, which is where I stop fiddling. Tried to look up an engineer in SW London, but there are none listed. Can you offer any advice on how I might find someone, or do I need to go the firm recommended by Smeg ?

Thanks for your reply, and guiding me to the safety advice. I wondered if there might be any point in replacing the two parts which lift off, as the flames don’t seem to be getting through properly.
