    Re: ISE dishwasher

Oh dear. It probably seems unreasonable, but this could be a show stopper.

Is there a warehouse somewhere that I could visit ? (As I write that, it does seem stupid to suggest it as no one is going to want to break the seal on one just so I can put some plates in it.)

Might there be a friendly engineer in London who knows a friendly customer who might not mind a visit from a neurotic potential purchaser ? Any way for me to make contact ?

    Thanks

    Re: ISE dishwasher

    Hello K,

Thanks for that quick and detailed reply. That sounds like everything I’ve hoped for, but I know the wife won’t let me spend £ 900 of our (mostly her) hard-earned without having actually put our plates in it. If I try and convince her otherwise, I’ll just get The Look.

Is there a straightforward way for me to find a local person who supplies them, in the hope that I can pay them a visit with some plates ? More or less any London post code, for starters.

    All the best

Re: Selector indicator broken on Neff U1552 Oven

Came across this when I was looking at my own old posts (I have the same oven) and thought I’d post a reply.

I’m now pretty sure that I’ve replaced all four film strips at least once, and I’ve come to the point where I resent the poor design and the cost, so I’ve come up with a low-tech solution.

Last time I replaced a film strip, I made two paper templates with holes for the control knobs, and marked all of the temperatures on them. Two film strips have recently snapped, and I’m going to use Letraset numbers to mark the temperatures around the outside instead. It’s too early to say if it will be a good solution for the long-term, but I’d rather do this than pay the extortionate prices for the film strips.

    Hope that helps

Re: AEG OKO Favorit 6040 not filling

Thanks for that information, but I’ve had no luck finding one. Did some web searches and made a couple of phone calls; one place listed the part but doesn’t have one. Any suggestions where I might get one ?

Have to be honest, though: if it’s going to cost me more than about £ 150 I think it’s time for a new dishwasher, as this one is now 13 years old and will doubtless need other bits fixed before long.

    Thanks again

Re: AEG OKO Favorit 6040 not filling

    Hello again,

I’ve taken off the inlet hose and that’s working fine.
    PNC number is 911 232 047 01.

In the interests of full disclosure, here’s some other information. It’s now completely disconnected from the mains, by the way.

I’ve looked at the circulation pump and there’s a damp clump of limescale underneath it, as well as scale around the pump itself. (But the float switch hasn’t been tripped.) I’m not used to looking at these things, but it appears to have burnt out in some way (which would also explain the nasty smell when I turned it off in a hurry a couple of days ago). There’s what looks like some melted plastic cladding, and some of the copper winding is discoloured. There are various numbers on the pump:

    646.121.460
    132.140-4
    ME201

I hope some or all of that might give you some clues, and any further help you can offer would be much appreciated. I’d really like to fix it, as it’s a brilliant dishwasher; people always seem surprised that we have one that actually cleans and dries dishes.

    Thanks

Re: AEG OKO Favorit 6040 not filling

Seamy, thanks for your reply. The float switch hasn’t been activated and the base is dry, so no obvious leaks. Just to avoid wasting anyone’s time, I’ll check that the inlet hose isn’t blocked in some way, but that seems unlikely as nothing has changed around it. Won’t be able to do that until Monday, or tomorrow afternoon at the earliest, so will post back then with result and model no.

    Thanks.

    Re: AEG OKO Favorit 6040

Many thanks for both replies. I installed a drain pump and it’s working again. Just had to cut off the power connector in the dishwasher and crimp on the spades supplied with the pump. No more washing dishes by hand – yippee !

I did see that the motor has a crust of limescale on the outside so that must be why the service chap said it needed replacing (but also said the part was discontinued), but the new pump has solved the immediate problem and prolonged the life of the dishwasher, so I’m well pleased.

    Thanks again

    Dear Wizard,

Many thanks for your answer. When I reassembled the switches the first time, I thought that they were sagging a bit, and the mystery part fits very neatly into the spot where support is needed, once you know that it’s supposed to be there !

Thanks for your advice, which has put my mind at ease. I’ve put the oven back together and everything works, so I will consign the mystery bit to the “wonder what that is ?” box.

    Re: Neff U1552 N0GB/01

The temperature indicators and oven/grill setting indicators are all marked on a loop of plastic film. When you turn one of the dials, there are gears which cause the film to move round, to indicate what temperature you’ve set. I assume that the heat from the oven eventually makes the film so brittle that it just snaps when you’re turning the dial. I think this is the third one I’ve replaced, and the oven’s just about 10 years old.

Thanks for your replies. I’m starting to worry that one of my kids just found a random bit of plastic and dropped it in there when I wasn’t looking, but everyone seems to have a straight face. I already have a Google Picasa account, so I’ve put photos on there. If you can’t see them, please let me know and I’ll set up a photobucket account.

Re: SMEG SPV577x ultra-rapid burner won’t stay lit

    Sorry to pester again, but:

Was about to book an engineer, when I noticed that the burner stays lit if there is a saucepan over it, i.e. flame only goes out when there’s nothing being cooked.

Does that tell anyone anything useful ? Is it meant to be like that (I don’t think it used to be), or is it a sign that it needs a repair ?

    Thanks again

Re: NEFF U1552 (8 years old) door doesn’t shut completely

    Greg,

It did fix it. Thank you so much. Not only does the oven work better, but I have the satisfaction of having done it myself (well, sort of ).

Can the springs in the hinges be reconditioned ? Would rather give them away to someone who can sort them, than throw them in a hole in the ground.

    Many Thanks
    John
