ParticipantRe: Bosch washing machine question
Thanks for checking the facts for me – much appreciated. Last question, I promise: having read that a stray bra wire could write off a sealed drum, and having had to retrieve a wire once – luckily the end was still poking through to the inside of the drum – I’m a bit nervous. Would I be better off buying the WAE24461 as it doesn’t have a sealed drum ? I’ve looked on the Bosch website and the specs seem much the same apart from load capacity (which doesn’t bother me). Is the E range inferior in other respects ?
Thanks again.

Thanks very much for those prompt replies. I could spend a bit more to get a more serviceable and longer-lasting machine, but sadly can’t stretch to ISE money at the moment – maybe up to £ 500 or so ? Do you have any suggestions ?
Thanks.

Martin, thanks very much for that explanation. I’ve taken the motor off and given it a clean, but I think I may have found the real culprit when I was removing the motor. The multi-wire electrical connector that needs to be disconnected when you get the motor out has six wires attached; one of them was hanging on by a thread and then fell off once I’d removed the connector. I reattached it and stuck it all back together and it seems fine now – spinning away happily.
Thanks again

Thanks for that speedy reply, Martin. Replacing the brushes shouldn’t be beyond me but if some insulation has been damaged can I just sort that with some insulating tape in the appropriate place ?
Any further help much appreciated.
Thanks

Thanks for your help so far. I’ve fitted the new bearings and element and the drum certainly turns more freely. But…I’m still hearing fingernails-on-blackboard. It’s only for the first couple of minutes of the cycle, as before, but it’s the sort of noise that I don’t think I should ignore. I’ve taken off the lower back panel and run the dryer, and the noise sounds like it’s coming from the motor – are there any particular points that tend to need lubricating or cleaning ?
Thanks

Sorry. The old unattached attachment trick.

Hello again,
Finally got round to taking the dryer to bits and I’ve attached a couple of photos of the inside, which I hope will help to identify which front bearing(s) I need.
Please could you let me know the relevant part numbers, if the photos have given you enough information.
Thanks as always

ParticipantRe: Bosch Exxcel SMS65E22GB Query
Hello,
I’ve recently bought this exact model of dishwasher and now been using it for a week. I was curious about the stored water thing as well, and the manual describes it as follows:
Aqua sensor, depending on model (I assume ours has it)
The Aqua sensor is an optical measuring device (light barrier) which measures the turbidity [whatever that is] of the rinsing water. The Aqua sensor is used acccording to the programme. If the Aqua sensor is active, “clean” rinsing water can be transferred to the next rinse bath and water consumption can be reduced by 3-6 litres. If the turbidity is greater, the water is drained and is replaced with fresh water.
Aside from that, it produces clean, dry dishes. Water sometimes collects in the bottom of cups and so on, but only a bit. It’s as good as the AEG which it replaced, and that seemed to be a hard act to follow. It’s pretty quiet, probably a little quieter than the AEG was, and it’s certainly possible to have a conversation when standing next to it, without raising your voice. Only current (and pretty minor) niggle is that we haven’t yet figured out how to load the top rack well. Things don’t seem to fit in as well as the old one, but I expect we’ll have figured that out in another week or two. I’m very pleased with it.
There’s a £ 50 off promotion on the Bosch UK website as well.

Post back if that link doesn’t work and I’ll check it.

Thanks for that info. I’ll take the dryer apart again in a couple of days and let you know what I find at the front so that I can order the right bits.

That doesn’t seem so bad. A quick glance at your spare parts section suggests that those bearings – 421307740952 and 421309205591 – are pretty cheap. Are they hard to fit ? Happy to order those and give it a try, if it’s not going to be a nightmare job. Have I got the right part numbers ?
Re. the heating element, it looks like there are two separate elements, but looking at your spares section it seems that it’s all just a single assembly, namely PS3402. Is that right ? It’s still working pretty well at the moment, but if I’m opening it up anyway I might as well do this at the same time.
BTW, off-topic but as you’re reading this anyway: I really appreciated your help on dishwashers a few weeks ago. In the end, I couldn’t afford to spend £ 900 on the ISE, much as I liked it, but we’ve gone for a mid-range Bosch at £ 450 (guided by the Buying Advice forum and Which ? ratings) which I hope will do a good job for a few years at least.
Thanks

If it’s the cheeky chappie I think it must be, it’s no surprise that he needs two dishwashers ! I’ve done some of his 30 minute recipes, and whilst the results are good they take me twice that time, and that’s before I clear up the kitchen which seems to be full of dishes by then 🙂
And thanks for the warranty info.

ParticipantRe: ISE dishwasher
Finally got round to contacting Mark and went to see him, plates in hand, today. (Mark, if you’re reading, thanks for taking the time to meet me.)
All looks good, but my wife (whose hard-earned cash I’ll be spending) is still concerned that I’ve been able to find hardly any reviews. We’ve both completely bought into the build-to-last philosophy, but if it means unloading wet dishes every day that would be miserable, and it seems that many dishwashers produce exactly that. Is there a place on this site where satisfied owners might have posted comments ?
Also, could I ask how the warranty works ? I hope I won’t need it, of course, but would I just use the “Find An Engineer” link in the “Contact Us” section of your site ?
Thanks

Thanks for those replies. Tried e-mailing Mark but it bounced – I’ll be in touch the week of the 3rd to arrange a visit.

North London would be brilliant. I could go there more or less any time (not working at the moment), although I have a few commitments over the next couple of weeks. Looking forward to more details.
Thanks

Thanks for your reply. Luton might not be as bonkers as it sounds, depending on exactly where Bryan is. It’s only half an hour on the train from King’s Cross. How can I contact him ?
Thanks.
