ParticipantRe: Sorry, washing machine recommendation needed 🙂
Morning All
Machine details are;
Mod. Fl 1082
Type P6596174
Prod No. 914789553 01I’ll give the independent engineer a call (£10 charge and hasn’t tried to sell anything) a call and get a more detailed description of the fault as I’m only relaying information from my head of laundry/wife (hope she doesn’t read this!)
Just had the thumb screws out and quizzed the head of laundry for further details, and during an explanation about temperatures and regulators she mentioned that the problem was to do with the machine not going through its program fast enough, causing washing to sit in hot water, and that program’s are taking longer than they should, and it needs a new system board to fix the problem.
Not sure if that helps at all, but I guess it explains why it would cost so much to fix.
Thanks for the continued responses.

Thanks for the replies….and to answer both in turn;
iadom,
I have no idea which regulator, the engineer who came and looked at it checked the thermostat which was fine but said the regulator was shot and would cost a small fortune to replace, hundreds for a new one and £150 for a used one. I’ve also just been told that the door seal needs replacing and that the control dial is broken…you can tell I use it loads 😉Does the above sound plausible, or would you still get a second opinion?
Martin,
I am curious as to what the differences are between the various WA* models, I’m sure that I read somewhere that it’s to do with different motor types, with the WAQ model featuring a motor that had essentially been unchanged since the 90’s. The implication being this was a good thing, and I’d prefer reliability over style.Does anyone know whether this is true, or whether it actually matters?
Thanks

ParticipantRe: Beko CGA9956 Hot sides and compressor running
Decided to ditch the Beko..it’s off to the local council tip next week.
A nice new Bosch KGH34X44GB is arriving to take it’s place…hopefully it will;
A. Fit the space available…it’ll be tight but should fit.
B. That it is more reliableThanks for the advice!

Arggghhhhh! This is driving me slightly nuts! 👿
After much thought I decided to just bite the bullet and get the compressor fixed….so I called up the engineer to confirm a couple of points about guarentees etc and have been left even more confused.
The engineer was honest enough to tell me that there was a chance that due to the overheating of the compressor/pipes that it was possible for there to be contamination in the transom pipes. If this was the case the new compressor would not last long at all…weeks, maybe months but not long term.
What great news….so now it’s a £180 gamble on whether the thing is even repairable.
Has anyone experienced the contamination problem?

Well the engineer came and confirmed the the diagnosis and we need a new compressor and regassing….£180.00 😥
Apparently not uncommon for its age, and a problem that has become more common across all brands since switching to a more natural gas!?
So now the dilemma….to repair or replace?
I guess I am looking at £300+ for even a low end replacement and closer to £600 for a better brand (Bosch, Liebherr etc)
Is there much else to go wrong if I have the Beko repaired, will it then give me another 4/5 years of use? Or am I more likely to be throwing my money down the drain?
I’m a bl00dy tight and indecisive bugger at the best of times so this is a real puzzler for me 😕
Thanks for your posts.

Thanks for the reply spimps 🙂
Disappointing to hear that they might have the problem right…sounds pricey 🙁
My surprise wasn’t the failure of a cheap appliance more that those problems were suggested…is there anyway of checking the cause? They can’t send an engineer until next Thursday!
I ask as the fridge and freezer are both getting cold….there is a good amount of ice on the back internal wall of the fridge (suggesting it’s getting to cold?) and everything in the freezer is frozen.
Perhaps I’ll have to ask Father Christmas for a new fridge/freezer this Christmas….how boring 🙁

Dave
Thanks for that.
Sadly all the Bosch FF in silver appear to exceed the 600mm depth measurement.
Given reasonable financial boundaries(sub £450), what other brands would be worth considering as an alternative.
I’ll try remeasuring the space to see whether the rear metal section of the FF might be able to fit round the pipework (it’s in a corner) thus allowing a slightly larger depth size…but I think 600mm is going to be my limit.
Thanks.
