Spot on, managed to get a local guy to look at it. New brushes fitted, good as new. Hopefully. Thanks for your help and advice.

Yes, it washes normally. Drum turns both ways.

No, if you put it on spin all that happens is the pump runs for a few seconds and then stops. After a minute or so it pumps again and so on, no drum movement at all.

    Hi Dave,
Tried both your suggestions already. I believe the spin won’t operate if there is still water in the machine, I can see what looks like an air pressure switch at the front of the machine with a rubber hose running down to the bottom. I’ve disconnected this and checked it isn’t blocked. There is no water in the machine, checked pump filter and emergency drain hose. Any other ideas?

Re: Whirlpool AFG 7080 warming up

I have decided to take the control panel to bits as I can’t see what else could be causing this problem. I’m not an electrician so I am not sure what the component is (transformer?) but the large rectangular component was very hot and has discoloured the pcb and the plastic below it, could that be the cause of my problem? If so what is the correct terminology for it so that I can try and order a new component. To tight to cough up for a complete panel which is the only other alternative I think.

Markings I can make out are MACOM (I think) Pri 230V 50/60hz sec 9V 15Va

    also 1012M109

    and 17011020

any help would really be appreciated.

I have tried switching the freezer on a few times. It always gets down to -18 but then after a while, length of time varies, the temperature rises and the alarm goes off. I have pulled the freezer out and thoroughly cleaned it, no difference. I would assume this is an issue with either a sensor or a board, anyone got any ideas please!?

I had an AFG 7080 with the dreaded clicking relay. Refrigeration engineer had diagnosed kaput circuit board at cost of £115 +fitting. After reading through this post I ordered a new 1000uF 16V capacitor from Maplins and with my basic electronics skills soldered it in place…. bingo, works like new and for a total cost of £3.48. Thank you one and all, I will certainly be back to UK Whitegoods next time I have any queiries!
