ParticipantIs there any way at all of getting a duct connector installed for that hole or do I need a new hole?
Is the mash the metal part? Will removing it and using just a plastic grille do?
Clarus Dignus
ParticipantThe instruction booklet and a sticker explicitly warn not to use a plastic hose. Apologies, I posted hastily.
I managed to disconnect the washing machine at the wall rather than the washing machine’s rear.
The end of the dryer’s existing plastic hose was slightly squished to fit into the hole in the wall. The hole is a plastic pipe that’s covered on the outside with a metal grid, which is covered with plastic grilles.
The instruction booklet says the hose can be connected to the wall using a wall mounting kit (not supplied) using one of two supplied jubilee clips (only one jubilee actually supplied). Given how close the hole is to the corner of the wall, I don’t think there’s room for the plate of the duct connector or the duct connector itself.
Is it OK to slightly squish the new hose into the hole, just as the previous hose was, to make it fit and feed it right through the hole to the outside? The diameter of the hoses and hole are the same.

ParticipantI’m reporting back to confirm that the replacement dryer was delivered last Monday, so that’s 2 weeks since it was ordered or 3 weeks since I registered the recall. Contrary to my initial concern, the recall process was very prompt.

Includes delivery, collection of your affected dryer, connection of your new dryer, and 12 months warranty.
Your appliance will be delivered by a third party logistics company which is based in ROI and who are acting on our behalf.

Not sure what to make of it.
Whirlpool claim the other free option, the condenser, is also out of stock but the two non-free options are in stock.

Participantdon wrote:All but a couple of top end dryers are out of stock of the 43 models they usually carry. Your dryer like most others are delivery not known as you can see from the screenshot.
Most manufacturers are not placing dryers as life essential appliances so they come last in the production queue. Cooking and refrigeration are first followed by washing machines, dryers and dishwashers. It’s not just our industry that is struggling after the pandemic. Building trades are really struggling as are retailers and DIY chains.
As you are wanting the replacement I’m afraid like others you will have to play the waiting game.
Don
Thanks for the context regarding the state and priority of production.
These are the models on offer. The free options are out of stock. The non-free options are in stock.
I wonder if they’ll soon run out of the non-free options too.

ParticipantI’ll wait a couple of months in the hope that they’ll restock though I’m not optimistic.

ParticipantExcellent deduction. Thanks, Dave. I appreciate your time.
Thanks for the confirmation, Don.

ParticipantHere is a picture from the inside of my dryer’s drum. It doesn’t appear to have a rivet as located in the picture you’ve provided me.

ParticipantI contacted them again and spoke with a different representative. She said the year is 2007/2017 (which I already knew) but doesn’t know which one and that I have to contact the seller to find out.
If they do that again contact their customer relations dept.
That’s the department I’ve been contacting.
Clarus Dignus
ParticipantI contacted them yesterday. The representative said he can’t assist me unless I provide him the year. I asked if he can determine the year from the model and serial number and he said no.
How do I determine the year using the model and serial number?
Clarus Dignus
ParticipantI’ve clicked:
No, I bought my dryer brand new before January 1st, 2016
Next, no green dots on dryer so I clicked:
I confirm my dryer DOES NOT have a green dot sticker
It then says:
If you purchased your dryer brand new after January 1st 2016 then your dryer is not affected by this issue and no further action is required.
Please enter the full model number (without spaces). The model number will contain at least one letter and can be found on the tag located either on the back of the dryer door or in the recess of the dryer door.
After entering my model and serial numbers it says:
We are sorry to let you know that unfortunately your dryer is one of the models that is affected by this recall.
Clarus Dignus
ParticipantDoes that mean the manufacture year is 2007?
I’m trying to determine the manufacture year to determine if a recall is necessary. No, it’s not modified (yet).
At the link you provided, I’m asked if the product was manufactured before or after September 2015 to determine if a recall is necessary.
Year of purchase
Dryers manufactured after September 2015 are not affected by this issue. If you purchased your dryer brand new after January 1st 2016 then your dryer is not affected by this issue and no further action is required. Your dryer already contains the modification that has been verified by the UK regulator to improve its safety and performance.
