    Re: Bernstein not stopping

    Thanks Penguin.

No, the water is fine, the wash is fine, it just keeps going and going. If you imagine the the timer is like the face of a clock, at noon, is the on/off/start. At the end of a cycle (drying -10-noon) it goes off, we know this because of the light goes out. There is then about a 5 second pause, the light comes back on again, the timer clicks past noon, and we are off again.

The machine completes it cycle, but just then starts a new one, and then another, and another and so on.

There is absolutely nothing wrong with the wash/rinse/dry, its perfect. The only time it stops is if we open the door or switch it off.

All I can think is that what ever tells the machine to end its cycle is defective. (button stuck down, defective timer)

    Re: Bernstein not stopping

In the middle of the timer, there is a torx screw hole, so you can turn it round manually. from the diagram that I found attached to the timer, it appears that the north/12 oclock position is the end/off/start.

With the door shut and the machine on, I turn the timer till the start light goes out, the timer still then clicks on a few seconds later to start a fresh cycle.

The problem is with the timer, or a sensor that tells the timer it has ended/started, or it could be the start button is stuck down. I have checked, and its clearly clicks on and off, so is unlikely.

    Any help very much appreciated…

All I can make out is: 36MBBTGB1, Bernstein 02-604C… (then the rest is gone)

    Re: Bernstein not stopping

arrrr, there is one other thing. If I open the door mid cycle, the timer continues to go round. I mean, if I do not shut the door, just leave it resting, the timer will complete its cycle (then start again) but no water.

I would have assumed that if you open the door mid cycle, the timer should stop.

I hope this sheds more light on my problem.

PS. The timer is of motor driven type and sits behind an access panel at the front below the tub.

that would figure, do you have a wiring diagram or picture??

From memory, there was a terminal that it could have been either or…ie, there were 2 earths (in and out) 2 negs (in and out) and 3 lives (in, out and ???)

Thanks Dave, will do if required. I assume that it is multi plugs on both ends?…..I did not see where it went to the other end. I assume that the lower front comes off and it just plugs in or is it a bit more complicated than that?

I have done a repair to the earth only with an automotive crimp and yes I have resealed it in its sticky cover. I have to do something with the other cracked wires as it is only a matter of time. Can you suggest any other place I can get a better price on the loom?

Well after much investigation, Simon from Interspares UK Ltd, Tel: 01526 322540, returned an email request for help and diagnosed it as ‘Broken Wiring Loom’ and he was spot on!!! It always seem obvious when you finally find the fault, and it was due to the door flexing the wiring over the years. The earth had snapped so I repaired it but 4 or 5 other wires are cracked but not severed, so it is only a matter of time unitil I need to refit a loom. The Loom is about £38 plus VAT and delivery I assume.

This is why opening and closing the door caused the machine to start filling again when it stalled mid programme. For anyone else having a similar problem, remover the trim panel and undo all the screws around the inside of the door. Then there are a couple more screws on the front and hey presto….easy DIY job, just make sure you disconnect the mains and remover the plug from the socket to be on the save side before touching any of the internal parts.

Once again, a big thanks to everyones help and I hope that this can be of help to others.

Very satisfying to repair something yourself.

Is it a big job, how many hours work and what should I pay per hour. I am in Chichester, West Sussex. Is this what controlls the water level of the tub?

    Re: Hygena APL 8224/1 help

Many thanks, can you explain a little more what the air break is and what it does and where it is situated?
