ParticipantRe: Bernstien Dishwasher playing up AGAIN
Well, good and bad news.
I pulled the whole unit out after getting a reading of .25-.28 ohms from an automotive DC Multimeter. I found the reset button, stashed away in a place you would never see it. I followed the wire, and it was only by feel that I found it, and indeed, it had tripped. Clicked it down and reassembled after a thorough clean out and presto, I have heat again.
The bad new is, is that it is still sticking at the same point on the timer.
Do I now get a new timer? How do I investigate the thermostat?
I think it tripped due to being stuck mid cycle for so long.
Advice?

Cool, thanks Penguin/Kwatt
Can you just give me a few pointers as to how to get the element out, I am assuming, pull the whole unit, lay it on its front door, and start pulling bits from underneath, or would I go from the inside of the unit, down under the filter/tub?
Thanks again guys, first rate forum!

Good one Penguin, I have just noticed that no heat is present throughout the cycle.
At the end, it dries, and again, no heat is present.
Does that point to something obvious?

Here is the timer I found last time, might help to shed some light onto what model Bernstein it is?

It cross refs over to Brandt: DWF041WU, DWX031U, VN8888U1, VW8888U1

Would the serial number be anywhere else on the machine, stamped on the back or something.
I remember last time it was playing up, i typed the part number on the timer into google and came up with a polish site listing it for about £35….for the timer, that is very cheap, as I think it was over £100 here in the UK.
Shall I pull the unit out our not?

I have just taken some pics to help with the ID as you know, Bernstein went pop a while back. Mine says made in France on the worn sticker, and alot of the internals are in Italian.
Hope this helps:::

Phew that was hard work but its all back together and I have just done a fast wash, and it is so, so, quiet, and not leaks, so its looking done.
Took me 2 evenings in the end, but I did not rush is, recon 7hrs in total.
Thanks for all your help guys!

^^^That’s a fair comment, if was doing it again, I recon I could get the drum out in half an hour, same to put it back in again.
You are obviously used to doing this sort of thing, and experience always wins.
Had a look at the larger inner bearing, and as the water has got in it looks well rusted. Any advise to get it out?
I also thought that maybe its a good idea to put the new bearings in the freezer overnight so they shrink and are easier to get in, is this a good idea or not?

Yeah, worked that out, extension bar with a large socket on the end.
I have got the inner seal out and just managed to get the outer bearing (smaller one) out. The inner larger bearing aint budging. That’s enough for tonight, so I have given it a good soak in WD40 overnight and have a go tomorrow.

Sweet, worked a treat, the drums are now separated. Just got to work out how to get the 2 old bearings out of the nylon tub.

ParticipantRe: Hotpoint WMA66 bearing replacement
Ok, the drum is out, not bad, about an hour, but I took my time.
Now I am here, and a bit lost as how to get the bearing out, it is utterly shagged, loads of play, front case fell off, but it appears well stuck. I have a rubber mallet, plus bigger lump hammers. I have gone at it reasonably hard with the rubber, but have not used anything more on it, as I dont want to shag it up.

Anyone give me any pointer on the best way to get it out?

I would agree, an hour if I was used to ripping these things apart, but I will be photographing it all as I go, so if I do it in 3hrs I will be chuffed.
