OK, I will try and stick the filter mesh back on with some silicone glue, and order a new filter assembly (£22 – ouch!) if that doesn’t work. Thanks for your help.

    Re: Avoiding Sludge

Well now, here’s the thing…. I have been religiously rinsing the past couple of days and It is not as onerous as I thought it would be. I generally have to run a sinkful of hot water anyway to wash the skillets and the work tops, so the crocks get a quick dunk in there. It only adds a couple of minutes onto the job. In a while I will try and look at the corrugated tube to see how it’s faring and give that a regular clean if it seems necessary. I want this machine to last! I’m awfully chuffed to have it working again and have vowed to spend the half hour it saves me doing a daily yoga session, so in a while I will be fit as well as happy!

    Re: Avoiding Sludge

Thanks again for your sterling advice, Martin.

My water pressure is quite low – 9 or 10 litres per min on the cold – dunno what that is in bars and pretty sure that himself isn’t going to be wanting to invest any more in this particular project. So switching to hot is probably not on the cards.

Pre-rinsing has always seemed like its missing the point of having a dishwasher to me, but I suppose I could give it a try if it’s definitely going to extend the life of the machine.

Is there no way we can manually desludge the inlet? Disconnect and flush through with hot water and detergent? I’m surprised that there isn’t some sort of filter system on there to deal with it.

My dishes and my hands are very happy this morning

Re: DW heater not working – can I connect to hot water suppl

Thanks! I’ve got one of your recommendations ringing me back about it. It seems daft not to get it repaired if I can get it done for a reasonable cost.

Re: Zanussi ZCM 700x worth refurbishing?

    Hi there

    Thanks for this!

We have bought an oven thermometer and it seems that the thermostat is not operating properly – even when the oven is on its highest setting it switches it off at around 180 C – which means it never reaches roast spud temperature.

So I think we can add the cost of a new thermostat to the list above.

Thankfully, the top and bottom elements seem to be working fine.

Here’s a question – when the oven is on fan setting, does it use just the fan element or a combination of all three? The reason I’m asking is because I have never actually used the oven as a conventional oven, but only on the fan setting. I always thought the only difference was whether the fan was on or off.

So I was quite surprised when we switched it over to the conventional setting and the oven started giving off an unfamiliar ‘unused element’ kind of smell.

Cheers for all your help on this.

    Re: Desperately seeking reliable dishwasher!

Thanks Greg! I was wondering about Bosch and Siemens, but for all I knew they could have been the same company as Zanussi/AEG.

Are Miele, Bosch and Siemens all OK as far as repairing is concerned? That is, are the technologies they use repairable and are spare parts widely available?

I hate having to throw away the AEG just because its heater is not working, but as both heaters have lasted around 9 months there is obviously a recurring fault. The repairman said it was a familiar problem with that machine, but he said the replacement heater looked a little different so assumed that the manufacturers had replaced it with a more reliable part. Obviously not.

Are there any companies out there who take machines like this and recycle them? Is that what happens when you get a new machine and the deliver men take away the old one, or does it go straight to landfill?

    Cheers!
