Yep. As above, I’m just doing constant rinse cycles at the moment and then cleaning inside the door seal. I’ll add some weight to the drum shortly to see if that leaves me any more little presents around the seal.

Whilst I had the machine out of the garage yesterday I left the pump filter open and ran water from a hose through the drum and it eventually ran clear so I just don’t know where all this is coming from.

To say I’m annoyed is an understatement, but if it doesn’t improve I’ll just have to write it off and get a new machine.

What is moving around, the machine or yet more sediment?

If it’s the machine, it just needs levelling. Sediment? Only a total strip-down and clean or loads of rinse cycles will cure the problem. But hey! It’s a Panasonic so your worst fears could be a reality if non of the above cure. 🙁

Sorry I wasn’t clear; it’s the sediment I was referring to. I’m doing a series of rinse cycles now and the amount is decreasing but with a full load it’ll probably dislodge some more.

Aside from issues caused by, shall we say l “user error” the machine has been rock solid. Is Panasonic a dirty word round here?

OK. We have a budget of around £450 for a washer and vented dryer into which the Zanussi fits the bill.

Let me rephrase the question, for £450, is a budget Zanussi washer and dryer combo going to prove more reliable than the Hotpoint?

We will also be taking out extended insurance with Domestic & General (£140 to insure both machines for 4 years).

Also, is there any way of knowing if the Zanussi ZWF12070 has a sealed drum unit?

Assuming that DJB bought it for the last retail price which I could find (£370), it has devalued by approx £20 per month, representing a first year loss of 66{e5d1b7155a01ef1f3b9c9968eaba33524ee81600d00d4be2b4d93ac2e58cec2d} in value. Even the likes of Fiat and Kia cars don’t depreciate that fast! The appliance is nowhere near justifying its carbon footprint. Quite why our caring, green-agenda government actually allows this kind of tat to be sold in the first place is quite beyond me.

Then, we could get onto the real budget stuff…. I won’t, we don’t want to frighten people too much.

Almost – £340 from Asda 18 months ago. Hotpoint should be made to foot the cost of disposing of their machines – the environmental impact of scrapping the sub-standard buckets of bolts that they manufacturer must be huge! 😯

I had heard rumours that Hotpoint had gone down hill but had no idea it had gone this far down hill!!

    Anyway, time to move on.

In budget terms, are Zanussi a step up from Hotpoint? We are going for a washer and a dryer this time, not a washer dryer.

To be honest, I have no confidence in the machine any more – it is 18 months old and has had two engineer visits in the first 6 months – the burning smell is very worrying to my other half (who worries about everything) so I am currently looking for separate washer and dryer machines to replace this fire-hazard in the making.

It’s a sad day when an appliance less than 2 years old is not worth the space it is taking up – I’m sure I could argue the toss using the sale of goods act or something but it just isn’t worth it – I’d rather have it out of the house.

If there’s any engineers in the Burnley area that would want this for spares – let me know.

Err, how can a row of horizontal lights flash from top to bottom. 😕

The error codes a shown by the On/Off light flashing rapidly and a combination of the left hand ‘vertical’ lights pulsing slowly.

You need to give us the left hand lights by number from top down.

    Jim.

Sorry about that – it is of course the vertical lights. There didn’t appear to be a sequence – they just flashed from top to bottom in very quick succession.

What you describe above simply wasn’t happening on this machine – the On/Off light and the Wash light blinked once with each other, then a top to bottom sequence of the vertical lights then nothing – about 10 seconds delay then a repeat of the above.

The machine failed to come out of this sequence until I gave it a thump on the side next to the on/off button then it briefly resumed to allow me to pump it out.

Right, I have managed to get the error code off the machine:

On/Off and Wash light up intermitently (together)
and the horizontal lights flash in a flow from top to bottom.

A friend who is an electrician has had the lid off and the wires on the left hand side (looking at the machine from the front) are scorched. They appear to be going into something to do with the dryer – but the thing dies whilst on wash not dry.

I suspect from your other comments that your are informed as to the limitations of the machine. Were Hotpoint still a UK company, we could nominate them for membership of the “Not Very Good Club of Great Britain”. Bear in mind that the machine has a 5 year parts warranty – if something is actually breaking down electrically (PCB or motor is a good expensive bet), you should accept that paying the call-out charge from Indesit is your cheapest option – assuming that you want to keep the machine.

As far as I can deduce this one was actually hot and cold fill, so just ensure that they are connected the right way round.

    Penguin45.

Thanks for the reply. This one is deffo cold fill only – as indicated in the manual (it stresses several times that this machine should not be connected to the hot feed).
