thanks to both of you .The wan Bosch model rings a bell.Wasnt there another series that was also without sealed drum ? Wae or something?

Just noticed that a New World oven achieve a BestBuy in Which magazine.Bearing in mind what has been said here, there doesnt seem much point in looking for a midmarket product if they are not really better than a budget one in terms of durability and performance that is , so I might ad well buy a cheap New World at £340, even if it only lasts 6-7 yrs

There are a lot of countries and manufacturers that produce some really good stuff until that is you ask them to produce to a cost. As soon as you say “but I want £XXX SRP” you’re into a compromise as it’s usually followed by, “I also want 8kg, 1400rpm, 340 programs, silver and bells”. Every step of that costs. If you work to an SRP then each thing you add dilutes something else and, sadly, that’s the reality. Most often quality suffers to meet the demands of SRP and specification.
To a degree, the country of origin matters little in that equation. Although, having said that, it can make a difference.
IMO there are no low or mid market appliances I’d actually recommend to people without a caveat or some hesitation. They’re all flawed by the above to some degree or another which will usually lead to a lowering of quality standards.
Pretty much it comes down to how much you’re going to use it as in, how much, how long you want it to last taking into account the use and how much you can afford to spend. After that, it’s about how good you want it to perform.
If you want top notch build, top notch durability and top notch performance then you’re at the top end of the scale. End of story.
If you want to compromise, depending on where and how much, you can look at cheaper alternatives. Just bear in mind that it will be a compromise in some way or another.
So it comes down to, what are you prepared to live with as you can’t have your cake and eat it as with most things in life.

Oh i dont doubt he is .People want bells and whites but dont wish to pay for them.From my part i look for appliances that do the basics well but I have no need for loads of extras.For example i looked at Bosch ovens and it seemed that the Classik range pretty much had what i wanted ie a double oven, one fan assisted, a timer and an easy way of keeping it clean.Thats it ,oh and the colour- black! Washing machine I have is a Bosch too which is now about 5 years old and only one minor repair so far.When i bought it the retailer told me it was made in Germany and the same price as a bells and whistles one from Spain , but he said it was better made so i bought it.
What i can t bear are appliances that just break down within a few years of purchase .In my book a midldle range one should give at least 10 years trouble free service.I once had Whirlpool Fridge freezer an a dishwasher both in built and within about 8 years were giving trouble .The Fridge freezer cracking here and there and then packed up and was a hell of a job to replace ie refit a new one.The dishwasher kept breaking down so I got it replaced with a basic Bosch which did what i wanted – wash dishes.Now I am looking for under the worktop fridge and dishwasher both integrated,i am tempted by Lieberr fridge but am unsure about the washer. Also a basic gas hob .Last one was Nef, cost me 130 quid and worked fine so i might get another of those
As for usage / well there is only two of us here .A fridge gets used 24/7 of course but our current freestanding washer(zanussi) maybe 3-4 times per week, same with our washing machine
I once had what i thought was a top notch build( it looked it and it felt it) washer a direct drive LG and it was rubbish,Impossible to get repaired when it broke down after 5 years.I would never buy LG products againRe: German made Bosch/ Siemens /Neff apliances

If you hold the view that if it’s made in Germany or in Poland by a German based company then their quality standards must still be high, you need to think again. Only price dictates quality and in a worldwide marketplace to which Bosch have placed themselves without doubt their standards have slipped by some appreciable margin of late in order to remain competitive! 🙁
Hence my earlier reference to Miele, as yet they still make ’em in Germany to very exacting standards. Sadly I can’t say that of Bosch these days.
Well I was looking for value for money mid markets products and Bosch always had a reputation for catering for that sector.Unfortunately it seems they have dumbed down somewhat in order to cater for consumer / retailer demand.I was hoping ,though , that they might still be making products that lived up to their name in their manufacturing base in Germany.
Miele are all very well and I dont doubt they justify their high prices. Unfortunately their servicing is so high it makes their repair uneconomic, therefore they become less attractiveRe: German made Bosch/ Siemens /Neff apliances
Nothing like getting straight from the hosres mouth Just phoned Bosch and they told me its now impossible to tell where theur appliances are sourced but regardless of where they are made they are all built to to the same standard and their are nt htird parties involved.Another thing- Neff Siemens and Bosch are also built to the same standard , just a few spec differences between them

thanks.T kind of muddies the water somewhat.if Bosch are synonymous with a certain quality but have chosen to go down market in order to capture their share of it , how and where does one discern where their better machines are/ start ? Does one then have to look at Siemens and Neff ?

and last longer( higher spec)? I can do without loads of extra bells and whistles but greater longevity would definitely make it more desirable

yes but some are made in Germany and apparently there is a way of telling, a sticker on the back or something.

The info you have recieved is correct, mid and top end Siemens freestanding machines enjoy the full 5 year warranty while the lower end and integrated models have the standard two.
I would still go with the Siemens integrated machine. if you want peace of mind for the extra three years you can always extend the manufacturers warranty for an extra premium.

Hello 🙂 I am rather curious as to why you would recommend a Siemens over a Bosch given they are made by the same people? Presumably the appliances are the same but with different badges on them

With the machine switched on and door closed , press the two buttons indicated by the reset sign….your appliance should switch to ‘end’ or ‘0’ minutes left dependant on model. Give it a couple of seconds and the pump should fire up ….you should hear it running , attempting to pump out.
There are now 2 things to check.
1. If you can’t hear the pump fire up then this would normally indicate a pump blockage. Remove as much water as possible from the appliance and in the bottom of the sump , after the filters have been removed , you will see a single screw holding a white plate . Remove this screw (Torx 20) and the white cover. This will give you access to the pump impellor allowing you to check for a foreign object. IMPORTANT POINT – Make sure you replace the cover and screw before testing as the pump won’t work without these in place.
2. If you can hear the pump running but its not draining then this would indicate a blockage in a hose/connection. Check your drain hose , especially if its connected directly to your sink waste .

Oh I see the E number is the model number, now the nearest i can find to it is SGS43EO2GB/43.Would this be ok do you think?

You can access most Bosch drain pumps through a cover plate at the 9 o’clock position in the sump, under the filters. Bail out what you can first.
