    Good evening Dave

I’ve used a multimeter – across 3 and 6 (power switch) and is open when knob in off position and closed everywhere else. Multimeter across 4 and 3 is continuous no matter where the knob is set. I assume therefore that the compressor should run but it doesn’t. I’ve put the thermostat in another fridge and will check tomorrow to see if 4 and 3 are open.

I’ve added a photo of the thermostat showing info on connector numbers.

    Many thanks

    Doug

    Good evening Dave
Once the retaining screw has been removed the whole control unit just pulls off! It is held in place with a four pin connector. See additional pictures.
Unfortunately I think the thermostat is OK which means problems in the compressor area – motor, capacitor or relay. It’s completely silent.

Many thanks for your help. Hope the information is useful to others.

    Thank you Dave

I have tried that but it doesn’t want to move. Will try again later.

    Hi Dave
    Thank you.
What should the working temperature be?
If the thermostat continues to go further out of calibration, how do I fit a new one?

    Hi Dave

The thermostat was originally set between 3 and 4 before it started running all the time.It ran continuosly for about six weeks so we emptied it and left it switched off while we went away for a week. Do you think leaving it off would make a difference?

At 13:21 it switched off and the temperature was – 23.3 it came back on at 13:45 and the temperature was -16.6. It’s still running with temperature of -23.1
It is currently in the conservatory (somewhere to work on it) It is a little warm in there! Could the seals be a problem since the temperature went up 6.7 degrees in 24 minutes?

    Hi Dave
The freezer is still running at 11:55 this morning, the temperature is -23.6 deg. C. When I open the door there is a whishing sound for a second or so.Sounds like air or gas escaping!

    Best wishes

    Good morning Dave

I’ve replaced all the bits and with an empty freezer I get the following results:
    Time Date Temp.Running?
    20:00 29/8 +22.5 Yes
    03:30 30/8 -20.2 No
    08:00 30/8 -18.2 No
    09:35 30/8 ?? Yes just started
    10:15 30/8 -20.4 Yes

The thermostat is set on 1 normally it is between 3 and 4.

It would appear that the thermostat will switch on and off. Could it still be faulty or is there something more serious?

    Thank you in advance

    Doug

    Good evening Dave
    Thank you for your response.
I’m sure I tried that initially but will try again. I need to put the door back on and replace the control panel so I will do it later this evening and try again.
    Let you know tomorrow.
    Thank you
    Doug
