ParticipantRe: Whirlpool ADG 7470/1 F8 error?
Hi All
Does anyone have any advice on this before I call out an engineer?
Thx

Hi all. Brushes changed and now working fine. Thank you for all your help. Just the drier to fix now (it appears to have given up in sympathy 🙂 )

Thanks for the tip – I will check the brushes but the motor does turn the drum during the rest of the cycle – just not on the spin.

Sorry – being a muppet, my model number is mentioned but I’m still not sure if this is the right thing.

I stripped out the wiring loom, motor (with door catch cable & mechanism attached) and the sump part from this machine before I ditched it.
Meant to do the freecycle thing but never got round to it. Put the parts in a box in the garage. have just cleared out the garage and need the space.
Does anybody want this stuff? – all fully operational when I took apart. I can’t landfill this stuff – It must be useful to someone, somewhere.
If I’m in your area I’ll even deliver for free

If the above still applies today, then using a biological detergent in the maintenance wash may be useful, although whether the enzymes will benefit the machine itself (removing grease) is not clear. I would assume that enzymes really only benefit the removal of stains on clothes.Carl
Not really applicable – 90C (although it kills the lipases) will melt any fat and it should get emulsified and flushed out in the maintenance washes.
Another benefit though is: The enzymes will also remove grease from the drain. If, like me, your wm outlet is into the “bagpipes” under the sink then that can get clogged up with fat deposits from your washing up. Sprinkle a bit of biological washing powder into the plug-hole every once in a while will ensure that you don’t have to take the pipework all apart and dig out the lard. 🙂

The point of the service wash is to kill bacteria build up and the only things I could think that would affect the frequency are the detergent used in the first place, useage and local water conditions. Maybe how good the drain is from the machine as well I guess and a few other minor factors, door open/closed etc.
K.
What is the recommendation for the door – open or closed when not in use? When not in use we leave our wm door just cracked open to allow a bit of air in. Are we doing the right thing?

ParticipantRe: How many Ariel tablets – one or two?
I’m not an engineer or washing machine expert but I know a bit about enzymes and whenever possible I like to give something back to this excellent forum which has helped me out on a number of occasions.
If you are doing your regular maintenance washes at 90C (as is recommended on here I think) then there is no point in bunging in expensive biological detergent when you do these high temp washes. The enzymes in the biological powder are “killed” at this temperature – essentially turning the detergent back into a non-bio one!
Better to keep a small packet of cheaper, non-biological detergent for use when you do the maintenance washes.

ParticipantRe: Bosch Classixx WAE24162 or Siemens WXLM148A?
Yes it is. And I have to say so-far-so-amazingly-good
Maybe it’s going from a 15 (+?) year old machine to this one but wow – what a difference. I keep having to check that it’s on!!
“Can you hear that?”
“No”
“Exactly” 🙂dougsta

Must say I didn’t know about the ISE.
UK Whitegoods Special I take it? How much?
Went for the Siemens – arrives Thursday. Will post feedback on how it behaves.

I just gave them a call – if you take it to the tip yourself then it’s free.
They dispose of and re-use as much of the materials as possible. Am struggling to find anyone who will actually take the machine off my hands and re-use the parts.
Anybody know any more than this?

Thanks all
Will phone the council – £7.50 to take it way.
In the meantime – if any of the parts can be re-used by people from here will send for the cost of p&p. Just let me know.

Filter clear – maintenance washes seem to have been doing their job
Wife has convinced me that a new machine is due.
Hence this one is up for grabs for parts. Is there a market for this kind of thing? Drum/Programmer/Motor etc are all OK.
Am loathe to throw it all in the tip too.
