Sent from my iPad using Tapatalk HDThat’s amazing turnaround, 30 calls booked in a couple of hours, wow, you need to let the rest of us know how you do it, I could never get that volume of calls booked in a couple of hours.
Very well done and I hope you can achieve I very high first time fix otherwise you will be busy second calling the week after, that will be where is eating in to your profit.DrDill
ParticipantRe: Is it just me or is anyone else quiet?
That should stop you moaning for while then.

Nope not noticed that martin, we are so flat out at the moment.
Are you checking me out martin??

Who’s accused you if lying?
On that note I will leave it there,

logistics your problem now? heres our typical day, 1st call in newquay, 2nd in truro, 3rd in redruth, 4th in hayle, 5th in st ives, 6th in penzance, 7th in helston, 8th in Falmouth, then back to shop. Work that travel out then throw in the tourists!!
I think your just joining the “isn’t it quiet bandwagon” when actually your doing ok.

Well there is your answer, tighten up on your recalls, carry more spares to achieve a higher first time fix, then profits will be better.
You actually said you find it harder to make a living
You didn’t say what your charge is?

ParticipantRe: Is it just me or is anyone else quiet?
I have also assumed only 6 calls, no allowance for parts mark up, and if just half the year you did your 9/10 calls a day that would cover your expences, which as you say are very low as you work from home and only employ yourself.
Also I have assumed £35 labour, what do you charge? then do the figures, something dosnt add up.DrDill
ParticipantRe: Is it just me or is anyone else quiet?
You don’t make sense Andy, you say when you are busy your doing 9/10 calls a day, but at the moment you are doing 6/7 calls a day, you stated:-
finding it hard to make a decent living out of it.
so for me if we take your labour as being £35 per call and you do 6 a day that’s 6 x 5 (days in a week worked) = 30, 30 x £35 = £1050 per week x 48 weeks = £50400, now that’s not a poor wage!! that’s 4 weeks off a year, no weekend work and only 6 jobs a day, practically part time.
Like I say dosnt make sense to me, I would take a yearly wage of £50k

ParticipantRe: Is it just me or is anyone else quiet?
I cant see how anyone can make a decent wage and still stay under the vat threshold?

Great response martin as ever, wind people up, spout nonsense then leave.

Martin, he has not got it spot on at all, it shows how out of touch you both are, if he was spot on explain why my fellow repairers, (who do not retail) in cornwall are busy and making a very good living?? Its because they have moved with the times, don’t sell themselves short and do a very good job.
Please don’t talk about things you know nothing about martin, you don’t live here, you don’t work here and you don’t retail, so basically your thoughts are just that, based on nothing more than your dreams.DrDill
ParticipantRe: Is it just me or is anyone else quiet?
Well that just about sums you up, have a pop and then retreat,
Happy retirement

again rubbish, that dosnt tell the true story, its all about output and in reality its less than half percent, look at that against the population and different story, it dosnt measure all the things. Generally used as propaganda by polaticians or cornwall council to deflect from their poor performance and financial waste.

There you go again Gazman, talking rubbish, Cornwall is not the poorest county and to make a statement because of that is not actually true at all, the real problem is the influx of cheep machines sold by the likes of argos, same as everywhere else in the country.Repairs down here are on the decline because of it.
You may have been born in Cornwall but it doesn’t mean you know the area as clearly you don’t, Cornwall was one of the first counties to get super fast internet, and over 50{e5d1b7155a01ef1f3b9c9968eaba33524ee81600d00d4be2b4d93ac2e58cec2d} of my customers in Cornwall find me through the internet, it is a very important advertising form for me and without it I would probably struggle. L spend less than half a percent of my turnover on paper advertising.
Appliances Online is a massive competitor to us and any independent retailer, that is why I only sell the makes that I do and 90{e5d1b7155a01ef1f3b9c9968eaba33524ee81600d00d4be2b4d93ac2e58cec2d} built in.
I don’t think the location has much to do with it, you market and sell what your area needs, and look to other areas.DrDill
ParticipantRe: Is it just me or is anyone else quiet?
Again your talking about retailing and even though you have not done it or any intention of doing it you cast an opinion based on what?
And you are moaning about the trade, read your last line. Others have a very different opinion, and location isn’t everything, I am in Cornwall and not heavily populated, and I compete very well against the internet, but then again I am very selective about what I display and sell, so sorry your opinion dosnt really stack up with the facts. -
