Re: The Future…….. is there one for this industry.

Lee8, you have a concern with a supplier, why have you brought that on to here? What have 90{e5d1b7155a01ef1f3b9c9968eaba33524ee81600d00d4be2b4d93ac2e58cec2d} of your comments on here got to do with this topic?

My headline “Is there a Future”, i am 29 years along, i bloody hope so too, i want there to be, i want our profession to be recognised, i want to see technical colleges teaching the basics, i want to see some form of acreditation, i want to see the current knowledge being taught to new engineers, and yes i do want to be part of the “Body” that brings this to fruitition. I want to again be proud to tell people ” i fix domestic appliances” without being compared to the man around the corner who bodges and scarpers.

I was at the WTA meeting friday, there was a lot of relevent people there, i had a lot of concerns, one of which was companies or individuals are allowed to be members without any form of appraisal, was it the intention of all members being eventually OFT and ISO compatible? Lots of things were not explained.
I also made some assumptions about one of the Board, i will not go in to detail here but he has contacted me and we have had a private conversation that as put me straight and i accept that some of the things i said were a little distasteful and OTT. But as i explained, if only there was less piss and wind, some one at the WTA should have stood at the top and clearly stated what the intention of the WTA is, how their progression through the plan would eventually lead to a form of recognition and the expulsion of the members that do not or refuse to meet a recognised minimum standard, this for me is my main concern about Trade Bodies, any one can join and put the sticker on the van. And yes my company has a lot of certificates on the wall, (OFT included) all purchased or trained for at great expence and this is monies that needs to be recouped.

Ken, i am not bordering on idiotic, and i have took offence at that, you cant call and tune and then simply say no offence intended sir!
I also disagree with your point about regulation, Gas regulations have led to the UK being one of the safest countries in Europe, Part P widens the choice of the consumer to get small works done at a reduced cost, it has also opened another revenue door for small businesses, my opinions and no offence intended! lol I really dont think its a mini cartel, it says if you dont want to be qualified you wont work in this industry. If it was a mini cartel, what is the WTA?
I want to be part of the future and when i retire i want to see this as a profession.

    Re: Connect Guarantee

well if they are , lets hope they change the return policy. I have over the years recieved many second hand or faulty parts when i have ordered from connect, and its obvious they are old parts sent back, so i know it goes on. Connect should check the parts when they are returned but they dont.

I am not saying i would do this , but when a company puts things in place that erode your profits, then you will look for ways to claw that back.
How many of us will go out to a machine under warranty and find a blocked filter that under the terms of the warranty is classed as user error and not covered, will simply write that the fault was something else so it would ensure payment for the job, is that any different?

    Re: Connect Guarantee

A way around this so i was told by another person is to order replacement and when you recieve it, you put the faulty part in its box and send the part back to connect as faulty. Full credit will arrive.
Of course i have never done this as i have had very few parts fail, but if i had an issue with a high value component i would consider it.

    Re: Lee’s DSG Thread

as this isnt a serious thread, calling repaircare a middle man shows me that you Lee8 have no understanding what repaircare actually do, comparing it to one engineer passing a call over to another engineer and taking a cut simply isnt the same!!!

    Re: DSG/RepairCare Rate Cuts

Totally agree with you Steve, it would be a sad world if we all couldnt have our own opinion or be able to freely express it, but let me tell you a story…. i was in a customers house yesterday and she looked rather sad and upset, there was obviously something bothering her, so i asked her what was wrong, she said her son had just died, oh i said thats very sad, what happened, well she said he was base jumping in London and he left it to late to open his parashoot and hit the pavement and he was killed. Now my opinion is that if you do this sort of thing there is a chance you could kill yourself, but i think it would be totally inapropriate to voice my personal opinion even though i am entilted too!
So yes every one is entitled to their opinion but do not have to express it every time if it would upset others who you supposedly class as fellow professionals about topics that could seriously damage thier business.

Now can we get back on Topic!

Why, does any one ever take what you say seriously?

    I’m actually giving good info.

Really? Trouble is you say so much rubbish, no one knows weather you are or not.

I wonder if the Repaircare directors recieved an offer they really should have taken.

    As i said, more rubbish!!

You should stay off this topic and i am annoyed with myself for answering your rubbish! I will tell my self off.

    Re: DSG/RepairCare Rate Cuts

I cant really add anything to the relevent posts above, i am 27 years in this industry and what has happened has left me with a very bad taste in my mouth.
I still cant accept that a company as big as repaircare have blatently lied to us, this company remember was once a family company, it has no family values now, how sad, and the people who have worked there, david parker etc, how sad to see that these once respected people have to be party to this whether they want to or not.
Of course if they truely have been screwed over by DSGi then why wont they post here and clear it up, i think we all know the answer to this!
Over the last 6 months they have recruited engineer after engineer with 4 or more tiers of cover, this was done because of this rate reduction so all preplanned, a total calculated attack on the independant engineer. We have all had to contend with the contract they wanted us to sign, i am surprised they didnt have a clause in there prohibbitting working for another network!
Any way my rant over and i could go on for many pages, but i will save you all as KWatt makes more sense than i!!!!

As a foot note, i dont know who you are Lee8 but i think you should stay off some of the topics as you really dont have any thing constructive to say, you just ruin the topic.
