ParticipantThanks Don – confirmed my suspicion – ordered it, fingers crossed that we’re lucky & it lasts another 20 years 😉

ParticipantI opened the 2 links side-by-side and compared the spec, couldn’t see any difference. Then chatted with a sales person at Marks Electrical and they don’t think there’s any difference either.

ParticipantRe: Neff ceramic hob
Instruction manual for a Neff ceramic hob (but you didn’t state your exact model number):

Look at the ‘Troubleshooting’ section
It might have the childproof lock feature as welledrandall

Spot on Dave. You and I must be of a similar vintage.
The chap I spoke to in the Putney shop was knowledgable enough, that resistor is wirewound so basically acting as a failsafe fuse. So all good there, and thanks to them we should have our lunch tomorrow.

Some people are quite rude about Maplin sometimes, all I can say is, right now they are my favourite shop.

ParticipantRe: Stoves Q720EM cutting out
Got the oven out, approx. 5mm of greasy dust was blocking the cooling fan inlet.
Really should take the cooker out and clean under/behind the cupboards every 5 years or so.Disconnected (obviously!) took the back off the cooker, cleaned everything. Initially suspected the Kigass control board, but disconnected the cooling motor and wired it directly to an extension lead to check. There’s a 100ohm 11W resistor in series with it – presumably to limit current in the event of the motor failing/jamming/something.
With this resistor in circuit the motor will not run.
Checked the motor rating, 230V, connected directly it runs fast and quiet.
With the resistor in place, nothing. Checked on DVM and the resistor is open-circuit.Where can I get a 100ohm 11W resistor on a Sunday anyone?

I think it’s the cooling fan around the back which has stopped working, if I turn the oven on and off again this normally stays running for a few minutes but all is quiet.

ParticipantRe: New pump inspection seal "weeping"
OK I solved it, nothing wrong with the O-ring (well square-ring seal in this case) and no dirt.
The screw-in cover was poorly finished by the manufacturer, they had left some “flash” on the plastic moulding face which the seal buts up against. You could see the imprint of it in the seal surface. I carefully scraped it off with a scalpel and now it seals perfectly.
I wonder if the machine will last another 17 years?! cheers! -
