    Thanks for the cryptic clue – worked a treat! I suspect it was the amount of fluff causing the screeching noises, as once cleaned out with a powerful vacuum, it seems ok.

    Aah, that didn’t work 😥
    I can see that the leak starts when the water level reaches a certain point.
    Looking underneath I can see that there is a fixing band holding the front of the drum assembly into the drum casing (excuse my improper terminology; but I’m an amateur ❗ ), and it looks as though the tightening screw has been fiddled with before , so I have made sure that it is tight; but I still get the leak 😡 Could it be from that join around the drum casing somewhere? If so, how can I get at it and what should I do ❓

    Thanks for the help guys.
    I’ll leave it on the bricks with the pan underneath until I return next w/e with some rubber solution.
    hopefully the it’ll last another 20 years 😀

    What is the bung for?
