    Penguin45 and Clive,

    There does not appear to be anything wrong with the water heating. When it sticks it just keeps on running the wash (first sticking point) or the rinse (second sticking point).

    Many thanks Penguin- can I just say how wonderful this forum is? Useful and free advice, and on a bank holiday too.
