Yes – sorry, hadn’t realised there was an Australian section.

Thanks Martin – placed an order last night, but wondered if this sub-forum attracted local (Sydney) folk who could advise on local options.

    Re: Bosch Classixx ‘Motor Fault!’

Now that I am home from work I have checked the brushes and as suspected they are worn. ($110 for a new pair of brushes in Sydney :rolls: – will get them tomorrow or find a UK supplier and get the mangle out for a couple of weeks)

Out of interest, how does the fault code reset itself? Is their a diagnostic routine that senses armature resistance/impedance at start up? Or is there a sequence of buttons to push?

    Thanks,

Had a moment of perspiration with a couple of hose clamps and length of 3/4″ copper pipe. All sorted (hopefully).

    Thanks.

The part number for the transit bolts is 186870 or substitute part 429205 which are slightly cheaper. Either are available from Bosch spares you will need three IIRC, one way of making sure would be to look at the back of the appliance.

Another way would be to pop along to your local Bosch retailer and ask if they have any odd ones knocking about from installations they have done. As a last resort you could take the lid off ( remembering to pull the plug first :zap: ) and slip a cushion down either side of the drum to stop it from banging around.

    HTH 🙂

    Great help. Thanks.

I have what I think is a similar problem – when the dryer ‘fails’ it issues a continuous beep and lights the Rapid Cotton, Gentle and Buzzer LEDs on the front panel. Condensation can be seen inside the panel – apparently it has been like that for months!!

I have opened her up (the dryer that is) and found plenty of fluff inside.

I can see what I think is the seal that has failed. It is at the front around the join between the main front panel plastic molding and the front fan unit.

However, for the life of me I cannot work out how to dismantle it far enough to get access to the seal to repair it. I have the front panel with the selector switch off and the lower front panel that covers the condensor and front fan. Also have removed the back panel and back fan unit.

Any help would be most appreciated.

    Thanks

    Thanks.

Brushes were worn. Have sourced a replacement part from TI.

Sourced a new TCO and have installed. Brushes now worn in and machine running well.

May get another year or two out of her yet!

    Thank you UK Whitegoods! 😀

Re: Siemens SIWAMAT 5030 no turning

Thanks. Dismantled motor and found what I guess is a thermal cut out that has gone open circuit. I have temporarily fixed this component.

Motor now runs but with considerable amount of sparking when drum rotates (on wash) and the motor is rotating in one particular direction. No sparking in other direction or on spin (probably as the rotation direction is is the same). Has completed two short washing cycles – unloaded and loaded.

I removed motor again to inspect and check that I have inserted the brushes and rebuilt motor OK. I notice what looks like discharge marks between the brush holder and metal shield over tachograph close to the point where the brush contacts commutator segments. Local RCCB does not trip though.

I wonder if the brushes are just “bedding in” to a worn commutator, or that the motor has now worn to the point of replacement rather than repair.

    I think I now have a choice between a £180 motor for a 8 year old machine or a new £280 Bosch.

Any comments gratefully received – it would be a shame to ditch her, a nice piece of kit and remarkably easy to work on. Mainly metal too!

    Thanks,

Re: Siemens SIWAMAT 5030 no turning

Many thanks for the help. I was surfing for a new machine…

Have removed motor and dismantled: lid, rotor, and stator. On my motor the plastic circuit board is screwed onto the lid. I have removed.

The circuit tracks are embedded into the plastic board. It is not obvious from visual inspection whether tracks have fused.

I have tested continuity. The connections to the field windings on the stator are intact. The two connections to the (what I will describe here as a) sensor are intact. The connection to one of the brushes is intact. The connection to the other brush from the main connector goes through a device. The device is a small can about 12mmx8mm by 3mm high. On a resitance test it appears open circuit. The markings on the device are “15 AM 253A” and “10V8S”. I am not sure what this device is. It appears to only have two terminals.

The field winding resitance seems OK (not particularly high). The armature resistance is OK.

What is the device, has it failed and, if so, is their a replacement ?

How can I check the main circuit board of the machine?

    Thanks,

    Fleabo

Re: Siemens SIWAMAT 5030 no turning

Thanks. I ahve changed the brushes on the motor. Removed old brushes and inserted new ones making sure they were the right way around.

Cleaned up the commutator a little with meths-soaked cotton buds. Refitted and reconnected the motor.

Drum and motor still do not rotate. The RCCB has not tripped again.

The resistance measured between brushes is now dropped to 1.9 ohms. Are there internal electronics in the motor and is it possible to check that the main control board is applying volts to the motor?

Are there other checks I can perform to try and isolate the problem?

    Thanks,

    Fleabo

Stainless steel outer drum. I’ll get my toolkit out. I can see that the front panel is easily removed. I guess the back one not as easy but possible.

    Cheers
