It shouldn’t really back feed as it has a non return flap 😕
What the best practice is, is to make sure that when the waste pipe leaves the spigot, it needs to go up into a loop higher than the the spigot so that back fill cannot take place.HTH

Have you checked the mains plug for signs of overheating ie disfigurement of plastic around pins of plug?
Have you tried the appliance in a different mains socket?
