I suspect a seized compressor causing thermal overload to operate. Considering its 20yrs old I would imagine a compressor change and a “drop in” gas change would be un ecenomical.

I would imagine the metering hose (from r/h tank to sump) is gunged up.
You can remove it but personally I would change it as a more permanent cure. You will also need to reset the aquastop unit after this to take it out of antiflood lock out. Metering hose p/no 118994 @ £6.45 + P+P and Vatregards

Certainly have had this fault before.
Check module (relay pcb section) I bet its got a few blown tracks 🙁
If that is so I would also check heater thoroughly. If that checks out and module has blown you will only need module p/no 264877 @ £83.00 GBP + P+P and VAT from http://www.bshappliancecare.com/bshspares.htmlPlease before investigating fault unplug appliance from mains :plug:
