I can’t seem to post a picture but from the plate

Re: Rangemaster. Oven element, or thermostat?

Sorry, my last post should have read closed circuit.

I have just tested the elements this evening and I got the following readings: –

    Bottom element – 52 ohms.
Middle top element – 44 ohms.
Outer top element – open circuit.

    New top element required.

Ok. I have read typically 20-30 ohms is good, so effectively open circuit.

Thanks. A job for the weekend. Are there resistance readings available for the elements?

Re: Rangemaster. Oven element, or thermostat?

Thanks. The grill is separate and is above the left-hand oven. I can’t see a lower element, so, if there is one, it must be under the metal floor of the oven. Perhaps I should take the back off and see if there are any connectors visible there from a lower element.

Sorry, that was most definitely a rhetorical question. The machine is only just out of its 12 month warranty, so should have a few years left in it yet.

Probably worth replacing it at £27 then?

    Martin,

    Thanks for that.

Checked the machine again today. When it’s turned on there is a beep and the LED flashes green 3 times, then another beep and it flashes red 20 times. It then keeps beeping and flashing red 20 times repeatedly.

I took out the temperature probe to test the resistance and got a reading of 1.05 K Ohms at ambient temperature, which was probably about 18 – 20 degrees.

Ok, thanks. I’ll test that tomorrow.

I gather that the heating element relay can also be the cause of the problem. Can that be replaced, or does it mean a complete new board?

Yes, I think the fan is blowing ok. I have just looked at a wiring diagram and there appears to be a temperature probe in the fan housing at the front of the machine, so I guess this could be at fault.

Just in case anyone actually reads this forum and is interested!

Finally got this mended last week. Had an engineer out and he replaced the compressor, has been alright for 3 days now, so looks promising.

Been in touch with a repair company, they seem doubtful about fixing the fault, and are not inspiring me with much confidence.
Could the defrost heaters be the cause of my problem? I haven’t tested them yet, as initially I thought it unlikely.

Not getting a lot of feedback on this one!

So, if when I first turn the appliance on and I get 4 displayed in the fridge temperature display, is this an error code? If so does it relate to the R-FAN, where can I find this, and how do I test it?

    Re: Samsung RS20CCMS stopped working

Fitted the defrost sensor this evening.

The appliance now runs, and the displays are static (ie. not flashing the temperature readings as before) but it is obviously not cooling as the temperature readings are not dropping.

Will take it apart again tomorrow and check the connnectors.

Is it possible I have another fault as well?

    Re: Samsung RS20CCMS stopped working

    Bryan,

To be honest by the time I got round to taking it apart the whole thing was completely defrosted. Since my original post I found the readings for the defrost sensor and tested it. It should read 13K ohms and mine reads 5K at room temperature. Also it is the old white type. The thermal fuse is fine, zero resistance. So I will order a new defrost sensor and see what happens with that fitted. At £13 including postage it is cheap enough.

    Glen.
