Thanks.iwhite3
ParticipantRe: Bosch SVG56A13/25 cycle sticks at 1 minute left
I had the same fault on my Siemens. See post lower down the list (Siemens & Bosch m/c’s are the same). Now fixed. My understanding of likely causes / fixes:
1) Try taking the filters out in the bottom inside the m/c. Feel for a hole at 7 oclock. Try rodding down the this hole using some flexible wire or a small bottle brush (dont force anything). There is a tube down there running towards the front L of the m/c which gets bunged up with sludge. This didnt fix mine though.
2) If above doesnt work remove m/c front lower panel (under door) and side panels. You need torx driver. You will see the tube mentioned above running from the pressure chamber 480748 (translucent moulding with orange float in it and pressure sensor) to the sump. Tube pulls off and you can then clean properly (I rodded it then poured boiling water into sump to flush it through. Look at pressure chamber to see if this is full of gunk. If so you will need to clean this out too (bit more difficult to disassemble though).
Also check matrix / heat ex 216452 as mine had sludge in top LH corner.
To get this all out you need to unbolt the 2 metal straps from matrix. Remove the 2 mouldings at top corners of m/c (front pulls off, back has 1 screw). Pull tubes out of matrix. Then the matrix pulls upwards (the connections are push fit). Water will spill from matrix at this point. You can then clean the matrix by filling with boiling water and shaking…. You can remove the pressure chamber disassemble clean and reassemble. Its not as hard as it sounds if you are reasonably mechanically minded (ie if you are used to DIY / car repairs for example). If not I would get a pro in to do it………
Cleaning the tube alone did not fix mine. Fault was caused by either the pressure chamber blockage or the matrix gunk (dont know which)……
Numbers I mentioned are part numbers in Bosch/Siemens spares diagram 4/6.

ParticipantRe: Siemens SE25A090GB/17 – Stuck on 1 min + other issues!
Just to close this out and thank everyone for their help. Last night I had another attempt at fixing it and it seems to have worked…….
Heater element was fine (24 ohms and 240v present when m/c running).
ON LHS I cleared some sludge from the pressure chamber (this is the translucent moulding which holds the pressure switch and float. Also removed some limescale from the float itself. Took the matrix / heat ex out and cleaned the sludge out of the top corner. This was hard to get to. In the end I used drain cleaner to chemically clean the sludge out!!! Made sure I thoroughly washed it afterwards as I dont fancy caustic soda spraying my pots next time it is used.
Today m/c ran through auto program without getting stuck on 1min!!!

I agree with trilobite having had a couple of hoover appliances they arent made like they used to be! Not impressed with them and wont buy again. The 5yr parts warranty isnt as great as you think as you have to pay Hoovers labour charges and callout (high). I got my Hoover fixed cheaper by a local repair guy in any case even though I had that warranty (although this depends how expensive the parts are which fail).
I have been researching and looking around myself having to buy a new tumble drier and washing m/c imminently. My belief is Miele stuff is best (at £500+). If you cant afford this (which I cant) then also consider Bosch / Siemens as Trilo says. I personally like Electrolux brand stuff (AEG, Zanussi & co) as they seem well made and priced reasonably. My last Zanussi washing m/c lasted 12yrs and we run it 6 nights a week for last few yrs with 3 kids!
John Lewis own brand stuff seems good as it is made by Electrolux group but you get 3yr warranty and John Lewis support is good…. Basix washer it think is £300 but has a decent amount of feature. 1200rpm Zanussi something like £240…..
BTW I am not an expert like many of the service engineers on this site so above is only my personal experience as a punter (although I am a mechanical engineer so believe I have a feel for whether things are designed robustly or not)…….

Cheers for the explanation Trilobite. Makes sense I guess. Now at least I have some understanding of how dishwashers work….. Just enough knowledge to be dangerous I reckon!!!!!!
I think 1 last attempt at fixing it tonight (I am going to check resistance across heater element and see if I can remove the matrix to clear any remaining sludge). Otherwise I will call it quits and call in a professional to fix it………
Does the heat ex matrix just pull out (upwards) from the pressure chamber once tubes & brackets are removed? It looks like it might just be a push fit with O rings……..
Thanks.

ParticipantRe: Hoover Condensing Tumble Drier Problems – TCE660
Cheers helo you confirmed my (laymans) opinion. Last night I ordered a John Lewis condensing tumbler @ £350. Rationale for spending £70 more than Zanussi model is 3yr warranty inc and timer delay feature (I reckon running @ night will save circa £35 per year by my calcs). Understand the JL stuff is made by Zanussi (Electrolux / AEG group) anyway so it should be as well made…… My only slight long term reservation is sourcing parts for the JL m/c (I am sure they are standard Electrolux bits but it might be more effort to ID them)…..
Thanks again for the advice….

ParticipantRe: What Dishwasher
I am no expert but have had 1 Bosch and 1 Siemens dishwasher over the last 10+ yrs. Both are the same design in reality (doesnt matter which make you buy). Have been impressed with both of them in terms of wash performance and build quality (I have just been taking the Siemens apart to clear a sludge blockage from food debris but to be fair its 6yrs+ old and used daily – we have 3 kids). This Siemens m/c looks well made internally…….
Hence I would recommend you look for a Bosch / Siemens model around that price range………

OK Clive will test the heater for 30ohms! Water last night was pretty warm though (I would say bathwater temp) – I would be surprised if the pump could put that much heat into it…… Would it normally only get luke warm if heater gone?
Cheers.

ParticipantRe: Siemens SE25A090GB/17 – Stuck on 1 min + other issues!
OK last night I had a look inside the m/c. Not so easy to get into as you cant just drop the front lower plinth off (took the steel cladding and large black moulding off but the lower case moulding still partly obscures). Also took side panels off.
I could see the tube you mentioned was fairly crudded up so I cleaned that out. Could also see crud (black slimy mould stuff) in 2 other places:
1) Pressure chamber (Siemens part 480748). After the aforementioned tube joins and the flow turns upwards sharp 90o there is also crud. This the part that contains the float / switch and the water level regulator just above. I cleaned some of the crud away using a piece of wire but couldnt get it all out around the corner (did not remove this part). Any tips on how to clean this properly (is there a quick way to do this or do I need to remove the heat exchanger, etc and strip down)? Is this the part you call the antiflood / metering unit?
2) Top rear corner of heat exchanger (assume this what you call the water matrix) – 215761. As this is transparent I can see some crud up there too at one point. No idea if this is critical and how I get to it. Do I need to remove the heat ex and back flush? If so does it come out by removing the 2 horizontal metal strap and simply pulling upwards (looks like most of the tubes are push fit O ring type)?
Water seems fairly hot when run last night (steam coming out) so I guess heater OK? Cold fill only.
Final dumb question what does the heat ex actually do? The instantaneous water heater must provide the heat so what does the heat ex do? Could do with an idiots guide to how a dishwasher works……. They seem much more complex than washing m/c or tumbler!!!!
Appreciate any advice. Thanks.

ParticipantRe: Siemens SE25A090GB/17 – Stuck on 1 min + other issues!
Thanks for all the input – most helpful. The m/c is cold fill only so the fact that water is hot/warm must mean the heater is working, right?
Looks like I need to check out the tube / metering unit and water matix……
BTW what is the function of the water matrix? I understand what the metering unit does but not this bit…….
Martin – I dont understand how you reached your conclusion????Thanks.

ParticipantRe: Siemens SE25A090GB/17 – Stuck on 1 min + other issues!
Gegsy – Thanks for the reply. Looks like I got confused with potential issues (I thought the Siemens / Bosch models had common problems but I must be comparing different age m/c’s off this site………).
OK will clean tube as suggested. Should I check anything else while I am in there????
From other posts I see the 1min error relates to filling / heating issues. Am I right in thinking that the heating element will basically work or not – hence warm water must mean its OK?
Thus it is likely a filling problem related to gunk blocking the above tube or similar??
Cheers.
