Yup sure enough, as soon as i gently tugged at the wires on the NTC one of them came away in my hand.
Reterminated and connected and its now merrily churning away again !
Thanks for saving me a £90 call out ONCE AGAIN !!Steve

Sorry.. one other question…
If its the NTC for the dryer heater element, is this the correct item to purchase… because I realise that there is an NTC for the drum (water temp) and the dryer heater…
C00080767 – Hotpoint & Other Washer Dryer Temperature Sensor Price: £5.11THanks again

Thats great I Cant thank you guys enough for how much help you’ve been with my “piece-of-junk” washer !
So now (thanks to all the assistance from this site), I have fitted a new temperature sensor on the drum, a new dryer heater element, new bearings, new shaft seal and new brushes !!
On the last fault someone said to me that its unlikely to be brushes as these indesit machines rarely last long enough to wear out the brushes !! 🙂 I can see what they mean !!
When I fitted the new dryer heater element, I checked the resistance of the temp sensor mounted above it with a digital meter and noticed that it changed even with just placing my thumb on it… so I assumed it was ok….
Although its quite possible that my recent replacement of the heater element disturbed connections to the sensor….
Will check it out… would any reading in the Kohms range indicate its ok or should I be looking for something a little more specific ?
Have noticed that the washer goes into fault almost immediately so its obviously checking that the sensor is in place and at the correct resistance – it doesnt matter if I set it to wash cycle or dry or spin etc. Thanks again for all your help – am just hoping that I can keep one more machine from going to landfill !!

ParticipantRe: Ariston AWD12 Help!
Hi ! Have posted another message under my last one, because I realised that I forgot to tick the box that says “notify me when a reply is posted” – so I thought I would post another message and tick the box this time !
Probably wont get any replies now ! 😥

Hello – I have an Ariston awd12S with similar fault and would be interested if the fault in this thread was ever resolved ?
My machine “sometimes” starts filling water if I am lucky… sometimes I have to “flick” the on/off button a couple of times and it starts filling. Then it stops filling and just sits there !
ALthough I noticed that if I leave it long enough (seemed like 30 minutes but was probably only a few) – it pumps out the water, the dial turns and I get 2 flashes from the fault led.
I notice that if I set the dial to the “empty drum” setting and power it up, it goes through that cycle and empties ok.
BUt I have not seen the drum move at all since this fault occurred, and have noticed on the forum that 2 flashes indicates “motor fault” (?) – so am hoping its a simple connection or brush replacement.Am fed up with this machine – had new temperature stat (TOC ?), new heater element on the drier, and new bearings and seal on the drum shaft !!
I also notice a very faint hummm from the machine when I turn it OFF !!! which goes away when I turn it on (using the on/off button on the front that is !)
Thanks for any advice (even advice to chuck the thing away!)

THANKS FOR ALL THE HELP !
I can hear my cheap and nasty Ariston going “churnachurnachurnachurnachurna” in the background right now as I type this – doing a drain cycle (well its hardly in the “background” !! – can hear it all over the house !)
I will certainly be pointing friends in the direction of whitegoods.co.uk for any whitegoods issues !
Thanks again…
Now…. I’ve got this problem with my VW car CD player… when I press eject….. 😉
Cheers !

EXCELLENT ! – the new NTC arrived – I quickly fitted it, and put a plastic freezer bag around the pcb whilst I was in there… also checked / cleaned a few connections etc…
Have tested the old NTC and found it to be open-circuit (even after heating with hot water !) – thing is I forgot to check the new one (but its fitted now and the machine appears to be working ok !)
I found that a lot of the connections seemed blackened as though they were burning – but I suspect its the black debris from the drive belt – but it just seems to be attracted to where the cables terminate onto terminals etc (particularly around the connections to the motor on top – is that something to do with the condensor ?) – bit weird !
ANyways you guys are the dogs cahoonas ! Saved me forking out over £90 to pay some guy to come out and tell me that I need a new machine !
Cheers !By the way, whilst I am here…. I find that if I select the IRON, WARDROBE or that other symbol on the DRYING option, it just seems to dry FOREVER ! and dries everything to a crisp ! So I now use the times (30,60, 90 etc) – any reasons why the wardrobe / iron symbols etc dont seem to work ?
(not a big issue – just thought I’d ask !)
THANKS AGAIN FOR EVERYTHING !! Nice one !Steve

Thats great – thanks for the help – I will check the reistance of the NTC – although I think I did read in one of the forums that they cost about £7 or £8 – so is worth while trying that part first !
The machine is now consistently failing with error code 3 – and now, instead of being at the transistion to the spin cycle, its at the beginning of any program just after the water has gone in…. so certainly looks like something to do with the heating process – I noticed heaters are only about £20 – so could be worth investing in too ?
One thing I do not understand with this machine is that as soon as it fails, it opens the water valve and starts the drain pump ! – which I thought a bit weird… because if it did that whilst I was not there watching it, it would waste gallons of water !
Anyway thanks again – will certainly be looking at the NTCs and heaters – I saw on the website that the heater is about 1700Watt – so would that have a resistance of approx 34 ohms ? (P=IxV) (V=IxR) etc ?
