Re: Hotpoint 7822W Upper arm not working

    Hi guys,
Many thanks for your help and advice. I wish you were on the Nissan car Forum to answer all my problems there.
The lady has decided she needs a change and we have selected a Bosch. the one with a Dial selector as all she needs to do is select the wash once and startup. All following washes do not need a degree in nuclear science. Just the simplest control functions. And this Bosch appears to have it.
This is a great Forum and I have been using the Whitegoods Forum for many years now.
    Thanks again for your help.

    Thanks Martin.
I vaguely remember some appliance long ago with tubes and a float mechanism on the side.
I always Power Off and wear latex gloves.

Re: Hotpoint 7822W Upper arm not working

    Hi again iadom,
I tried your suggestion to put a bowl on the lower basket then run several times in Main Wash and Prewash for about a miiute or two. Heard a pump (sounded like) operating, then some tick – tick noise and then another pump sound. But No water anywhere.
This was curious as she had preciously completed 2 main wash cycles. after which there was water in the bottom.
Checked the filters in the bottom and they were absolutely clear.
I wonder what would cause the water not to flow at startup?
Any further suggestions please? Do I need to remove the washer from under the worktop and raise the top cover?
    Thanks again

    Hi Iadom,
Thanks very much for your most informative and prompt response. This is most appreciated. I cannot believe that I did not think of placing a bowl in the basket to see if the water is being supplied. I guess because I had imagined that there must be a sealed connection between the top and bottom pipes.
Thanks too for the additional possibilities.

    Best regards,

    John

Re: Bosch srs4312GB/08 drain pump stuck

Hi guys and thanks very much for your rapid responses. Apologies for my tardy reply as work commitments had priority.

From a previous problem with the pump I repaired it via access from the door kick panel. It was so long ago I have totally forgotten how I approached it.
Anyway, i have just checked the pump and found no debris there. Replaced it and switched on and herd a rattling noise which turned out to be the pump running dry. So I poured some water into the washer and started again. Pump works fine, but the water did not exit the unit. I don’t know where the blockage is and the hoses have quite a long run of 4/5 metres without joints for me to check.
I am lost as to what programme to run to ensure the water is being delivered to the washer and to ensure the pump is working.

How can I completely remove the pump to check if there is a leakage from the discharge tube?

Any further suggestions guys? If this lasts any longer I will have to start cooking AND washing up.

Thanks again for you help and do have a good weekend,

    John

    Re: Creda T602CW Intermittent

    Hey QUICK FIX and Martin,
    You are both absolutely correct.
I spent time in measuring coil resistance and contact resistances and all proved OK. So I connected a mains supply to the relay coil and left it for a few minutes and Bingo. It dropped out. Switched on again, relay operated and fell out a couple of minutes later. Could not see locate the fault at all.
So its off to the store to buy a new Relay.

    Many thanks for your help.

    Hi Martin,
    Thanks for the advicce.
I have removed the relay and it is a Schrack RMRM505730 with 2 – single pole on/off contacts and only one of these contacts are being used. Is there any reason that I should not use the other (unused) pair of contacts to repair??

    Thanks,

    Re: ZanussiZI920/8FF Fridge not cooling

A bit sad, but I’m advised by twol refridgeration engineers that my Fridge section has developed a leak. This because the fridge and freezer are separately cooled via evaporators. It wil be difficult to find the leak although regassing is a piece of cake.
So I guess my Zanussi will have to join that great Fridge/Freezer family on Planet Zanussi.

Thanks for your assistance and I’m sure I’ll be back with something else.

    Re: ZanussiZI920/8FF Fridge not cooling

Thanks for your very prompt advice Bob. It is most appreciated in helping me to find a solution. Wife is nagging about lack of space for both of us in the kitchen.
I’d like to explore ALL avenues before calling out an engineer. But I will when it’s necessary.
    Overnight Inoticed some further developments:
    1. The freezer temp dropped right off the scaly below 30C. While the fridge remained at room temp around 18C.
    2. The condenser at the back of the fridge was quite hot on one side only. The other side was quite cool. Maybe confirming Bob’s diagnosis.
    3. The compressor was quite hot to touch.

It appears that you are probably correct in your suggestion that there is a separate evaporator for the fridge. However, what is the best way to examine this aspect of the Unit? Could the fridge thermostat be the cause of this symptom? Or some other device that is accessible?
Or as you suggest it’s most likely the lack o f gas or the compressor itself?

    thanks again,

    John

    Re: ZanussiZI920/8FF Fridge not cooling

    Hi spimps,
Apologies for the long wait for a response.
I had the back coveroff the inside of the freezer and there was a fan behind this, together with a couple of thermostats, the evaporator and a heater. I looked high and low, removed the fan and the plastic all round the fan recess was pristine without a crack, joint or mark to indicate a damper or flap. Nothing there to let air out of the freezer compartment.
I checked the fan, heater and the switches and they are all OK.
After removing the Unit from the integrated box I still could not find anything that could indicate a ducting except fo the 4inch bump about a metre high on the back of the rear insulation. Maybe a duct undeer that. But where can the air come from? I do remember that there used to be icicles on the rear wall inside the fridge. So there must be something there.
NO signs of the timer or anything electrical except the motor contactor. Eventually removed the plate between the fridge and the freezer from the front and voila there was the timer. Seemed to be working OK, but, on opening it up the contacts were weled together. Fitted a new timer this afternoon and now waiting to see results.
Running for about 2 hours now, freezer is just below 0C, but the fridge is still at room temp.
Doesn’t seem to be any different to when I started this project.
Where can I look for a fan or duct or something that can provide cooling to the fridge?????? Will I have to start tearing off the insulation which looks quite substantial.
Any suggestions on how and where to proceed? Is it likely that there may be other devices in the space between the fridge and the freezer?
    Thanks for your help

    Re: ZanussiZI920/8FF Fridge not cooling

Thanks for your prompt response spimps.
I have tested the two switches (they are just bi-metal thermostats) and they are OK. Heater fine.
Taken the F/F out of the housing.
Now I am in trouble. As this is an Integrated Unit, the complete back of the Unit is covered with an insulation covered in a thinck piece of plastic or similar. It’s all one piece and I cannot see anuthing behind it. I am trying to locate the Defrost Timer.
The only clue I have is that the only cables up from the base cable entry is on the left hand side (looking from the rear). There is also a bulge about 4 inches wide and a metre long on the same side.
Anu suggestions on how to access the electrics, fan? and timer stuff? I don’t want to have to remove all the insulation and then have to replace it.

    Thanks and regards,

    John

Thanks a bundle for your advice. As you point out – I will have to consider whether it is worth replacing the timer for that money or investing in a new machine.
In the meantime it’s rubber gloves or double time on the machine.

    All the best,

    John

Re: Bosch SGS4312GB Dishwasher does not drain

    Hi Penguin45,
Many thanks. I eventually worked this out and nearly broke the pump trying to get the thhing to twost out. I managed to get the pump out and to my great good fortune, I found an elastic band stuck around the impellor. Removed that, assembled the lot and the pump worked fine. Now trying the first wash and looking good.
At least it did not cost me anything but the 6 hours I spent yesterday and today.
Thanks again to you Martin and Penguin45.
I can now enjoy the rest of the weekend.

    John
