Re: Hot point FTCF87BGG F03 FAULT

Ordered the part from here on Friday, slightly dearer than Fleabay, received yesterday afternoon, fitted last night, jobs a good un.
Relatively straightforward if any one else wants a go!
Unplug from the mains, remove 2 screws from the lid and slide back/unclip to get it off. 4 screws down the rear of the left hand panel (that’s left hand looking from the front!)
One screw at the left hand front top then release side panel.
Unclip wiring from bottom then remove two screws holding thermistor in place. Carefully remove wiring connection from thermistor.
    Reverse to refit.
Fiddliest bit was re screwing thermistor in place. A magnetic tipped screwdriver would have been handy.
Thanks again to iamdom for the assistance.

    With my meter set a 2k I’m getting .356
I chucked in a low oven, about 90 degrees, for 5 minutes and got .320
Then I tried it in the freezer for 5 mins and got .356
Not very scientific but it looks like its knackered.
It doesn’t look as though i can order it from the ukwhitegoods shop, but it’s available elsewhere.

Think I’ve found it thanks. left hand side panel off looking from the front. Screwed into the bottom of the front panel below the drum. I’ve dusted off my multimeter. What sort of figure should I be looking for at room temperature, and I guess also need to test it when hot?

    One trip to Maplin’s later. . . ..

Resistance on one heater element is 56 ohms, 55.5 on the other.

There are 3 TOCs on the heater housing:

The one at the rear has a closed circuit and some kind of reset button built into it. The button has free movement if that makes sense, i.e.no resistance or clicking when pressed.

The next TOC along also has a closed circuit.

The 3rd TOC is positioned at the front of the housing where it curves down towards the drum. This is showing an OPEN circuit. Is this significant?

    Cheers

Don’t think that’s the problem as I can go through a full wash and dry cycle, and then start an additional drying cycle: the load’s still damp at the end.

I’m ok with mechanical stuff, but not so confident with electrickery. I’ll need to get a new multimeter before I can test the heater. Thanks for the suggestion. Do you know what the resistance should be?

Think the heater is ok. Do you think maybe it’s not getting hot enough?
