Thanks guys. Will see if I can get a more suitable stat. The service manual says that the average running amp on this model is 2.3amps. I’ve tested with a plug in power monitor, it’s drawing around 3.9amp. I though it would draw about that to start the motor then reduce to about 2.5amp. Hope it’s the relay rather than the motor. Any thoughts.

Really evenly. Nice even frost over all the evaporator channels. If you want to see an image there’s some on a vintage fridge forum I joined.

Cheers Martin. Confusing then. Will give more though . maybe the vc1 isn’t suitable. Evaporator freezes well, capillary fixed in original position. It’s a mechanical relay. Stays hot when the compressor is running. Should only pull around 2 amp once the motor is going. Think it is pulling more. Need to get a meter and check.

Hi guys. Managed to get hold of the service manual for the fridge. Really interesting read .tried another vc1. Still the same problem, works normally for a while then, stops switching the compressor off. I have a question. When the thermostat reaches the correct temperature. What cuts the power to the compressor. Is this a switch in the relay box, somewhere the power must physically disable. Karl

Re: 1937 GE flat top help needed

Hi guys. Had the fridge running for a week. Was working perfectly, compressor coming on for 2 mins at a time. keeping a constant 3 degrees, although had to keep it on the lowest setting. Yesterday played up, staying on constantly. Making the compressor over work. If i put the thermostat to 0 compressor switches off. Turn it to 1 it starts up again. Could this be a problem with the relay switch. Cheers karl

Seems to be running fine. Switches on for around 4 mins if you open the door. Otherwise every half hour or so. Gets really cold on low to mid setting. Compressor is fairly hot, but not roasting . Hope that’s normal. Shall give it a day or so. Great having it going again. Very happy! Karl

Shall wait for some advice. But convinced that the green returns to the compressor like neutral. As the only 2 connections are the 2 blacks on one connection and one green on the other.

Hi. Just wiring the thermostat vc1 the original thermostat has 1 green wire and 2 black wires, the black wires are connected together on the same terminal. I don’t know whether to separate them and put one on terminal 3 the other on 4. Any idea. Cheers karl
