I’m looking at professional/industrial models, but am not impressed with some of the reviews and comments I’ve found about Polti reliability from the home ironing business types. As my iron can be in as much use as these folks give them, I’m hoping for some more details on other makes.
I may need to try a pre-loved industrial type.

Unfortunately I bought it online from one of those places that sells returned and reconditioned items, so, while it was ‘new’ when I got it, it isn’t covered by any guarantee. I suppose I learned my lesson, but I did need a cheap on in a hurry at that point.
I think Himself (being an engineering type) is going to try bypassing the water softening arrangement, as this seems to be the cause of the problem (or rather, where the problem of not having a decent pump manifests itself!). I’m not bothered by having the water softening thing, as we have a water softener fitted to the house.
I’m not at all pleased with MR’s wasteful attitude, and am looking in the longer term for something more robust and repairable: something built for workshop use, as I am a dress and costume maker.

I just bought one of these ISE5’s, and I have to say I’m delighted with it. Washes beautifully, VERY quiet, doesn’t eat socks! 😀 😀

Will do. I was also going to make up a full order with some dish washing stuff if the washing powder worked out well. I don’t have to TOUCH that, so it’s not a bother. They assured me that it compared well with Fairy tabs, which we buy now (we stock up when it’s on special offer).

OK, an update on the Aquados Non Bio:
One tab did very well on a light load and a lightly soiled load, and did beautifully on the sheets that had a one-night stand and got a quick wash.
Two tabs did the job perfectly on a full load of dark coloured stuff with mud, blood, chocolate and butter ground in with the grass stains… James has been mowing the garden for me, eating chocolate, and generally being a teen-ager!
The scent was more noticeable than that of the Persil, but this may just be because it was different from the normal Persil smell we are used to…
We have had NO skin reactions.
All good stuff, and certainly something to consider when I buy again. I’m now off to see what I can find in the eco-friendly non-bio, pong-free but EFFECTIVE ranges, and see if I can get a few samples. Worth a try, anyway! I’ll report back when I have more info.

I do clean it out regularly, back to shiny metal. It’s even been re-painted once, and that didn’t help for long. I’m concerned that it will rust through in a few months! I don’t want those pesky little microwaves escaping… 😀

It’s certainly an idea to consider… I’d need to look at the size carefully, as a small domestic kitchen may not have the right space for it. Mind you, the drop-down doors I’ve seen on some have a great appeal! Much better in my present set-up than maneuvering hot stuff round the side opening door to a free bit of work surface!
We bought the best we could find at the time, and it certainly paid off, as we must have bought it in the spring of 1986, when we spend 12 weeks of evenings and weekends stripping out the living room and didn’t have time to cook properly (and there was no room as the living room furniture was in the dining room, and with no door in the hole between the living room and kitchen, the dust got into everything!). We ate a lot of Marks & Spencer ready meals. It put me off anything but home cooking for life! I occasionally use bought zappables, but usually even my zappable dinners are home made! I have time to consider this as the Zanussi still works, and I’m disinclined to junk it just for looks and a lack of door knob… But the rust does concern me somewhat… I’m prepared to save up for a good one rather than buy a cheapo-crap item that might last six months if I don’t upset it!

It has a nice large 40 litre cavity and while it does have a turntable, the nice thing is you have two shelves which come with it and various slots in the cavity wall to adjust the cooking height. The other compromise is that it`s silver on the outside.

I only want ss on the outside to match the oven door and hob, so I suppose a ‘silver’ outside would be OK…
I REALLY hate turntables! They collect grunge under them and the grooves and the turny knob thing are a bugger to clean… I love my smooth, totally FLAT glass base in the Zanussi, but want to do away with the rust problem. Oh, and those turntable plates are usually far too big to fit in the dishwasher!

ISE all the way for me after this horror story and my own experiences getting a Whirlpoo exchanged after it fried itself to the point of welding the soap drawer shut!
I’m saving for a dryer and a dishwasher, when they finally expire (dryer being a 20+ year old AEG with problems that are unecconomic to repair, and the dishwasher being another iffy Whirlpoo object). And by the next time I need fridges and freezers, ISE might do them too!
Love my new ISE5 washing machine.
