Not an easy job and costly generally the bearings score the spider shaft and renewal is required . However if you are really handy its time consuming and dirty but possible, personally I have always fitted a tub rear half with bearings fitted and a new drum spider

What type of noise ? When the machine first starts prior to filling it will drain it may be the drain pump that you are hearing possibly a loose impeller or debris in the pump. However when the machine starts to fill there is only the water valves open and they should be silent apart from the in rush of water noise

Defrost unit and see if problem persists if not its probably one of the following or all Defrost sensor /defrost heater/defrost drain heater or motor for circulation fan

Generally speaking no provided the thickness of the carbon brush does not cover more than one segment of the contacts on the end of the motor armature
