if the dishwasher failed after an interuption to the cycle
its possible that when the machine was restarted
the conditions had changed which the machine saw as
a fault and a reset would normaly cure it
on some dishwashers pressing the start button for
more than 5 seconds will reset the program.
You should read the instruction manual to see
if it tells you how to reset or abort a cycle

most electronic timers used in cookers disconnect the supply to
elements/solanoids when first powered up until they are set to the
right time and then set to manual.
if the relay in your timer is energising it points to the timer working
on power up, so if you disconnect the neutral supply to the timer you
may find that the cooker will work without the timer
