No idea if it’s not working as I am getting them fine.

But, looks like the next upgrade will happen through the night so, not much point putting huge amounts of effort in today.

It is more likely an issue with the counter or flow meter, which is this part:

    https://shop.ukwhitegoods.co.uk/1729900100-beko-diplomat-dishwasher-flow-meter

Shown on the attached as item 5830.

If that doesn’t tell it it’s got enough water, it won’t stop filling.

Yeah, I know there are a few things that aren’t quite right, I’ve seen a few myself but I’m loathe to do much about them right now as we’re just about to make the jump to VB5 so, two iterations and a number of years in front if VB3 and I’d imagine there will be some significant differences.

What Sudeep and I discussed at length the other day and again earlier today is that there’s little point in putting the advanced scripts and the funky stuff in now nor for that matter, fixing a lot of the minor bugs we see.

What we arrived at was, in my view the logical conclusion being that, get it to a stable and current version then do the work as we have no idea what we’d lose on a version jump, or gain really.

We also are aware there’s been some slagging off of VB5 but then, there was of VB4 and just about any other forum platform as none are perfect from what I could tell. It’s a case of getting the best you can really for the intended purpose.

Given the volume of traffic, how the forums are used, the exposure and so forth we decided this was the best of the bunch… probably.

In VB5 a lot of the shortcuts have either been or can be made more obvious and it’s more intuitive, in my opinion with a cleaner design ethic so I’m hoping that will be better for all.

The trouble was that to migrate from PHPBB3 we have to do that to VB4, we couldn’t go to VB5. So, there was no other option than to stop here for a day or two then move on. Plus we had to upgrade the server also to meet the stuff we need for VB5, the main site and the store as that all needed an upgrade to the underlying PHP version, no choice.

All this sorta forced us down this path, whether we liked it, wanted to or not… there was no other way and most assuredly none that was any less of an impact. And, this was planned to the Nth degree with every which way to do it all looked into.

    It’ll come right, promise.

Yeah, I do remember Jim and I’ve had the license for this since about 2009 or something, just never got round to doing it.

Aside from the GDPR stuff, there are loads of reasons to move to VB.

Far better search, something often bemoaned by many.

Far better control over options and, a lot more of them.

Flood control for PMs so they can’t be abused by spammers and people like the banned user whose name shall not be spoken.

    More design control.

    Themes.

    Far, far faster

    Better moderation control and tools.

That’s just the stuff I can think on off the cuff, there’s more.

I dunno what’s up with the old PMs but I had an issue with them that I need to dig into further but a lot of that sort of stuff you don’t find out about till you use the thing in anger as it were. Then you just sort it as you go, eventually, it comes right.

    Smilies need fixed as well.

You need to subscribe on this one, privacy thing and so we don’t get accused of spamming plus… GDPR.

Nah I think it was a permissions thing Jim.

Primarily other than the odd person having problems due to old emails etc it was the mods group and WTA as both have permissions that differ and are layered so more complex to sort out.

Overall it’s actually been much smoother than expected.

I need to learn how to do that as well!

But once we sort out the step to V5 then we’ll have stop forum spam back which should reduce it significantly and make it a one click ban.

Also I found a tweak the will not allow new users to post a url without moderation first and that also will kill a lot.

Hold that thought Martin, it’s not fully done yet with a more mobile version coming very soon.

We had to do this in a particular order, we couldn’t just jump straight to where we wanted to be.

    Hey, it gets better…

Upgrade later to V5 so some stuff will alter, in look more than much else from the front end of it but, that gets it to the final (well, current) version so from there little change should occur for a long time I am hoping.

While some of the legislation is harmonised with the EU the vast bulk of this is actually UK legislation and, UK only legislation. In some instances, the EU has played catch up with the UK.

The prime example is the 6 year rule, it’s only 5 in Scotland but merely 2 across the rest of the EU and, the EU copied the UK.

That’s in effect what your customer is trying to use and probably trying to tell you that they have a free 6 year warranty, which they do not.

So if you want to blame anyone for the S-H-1-T that we all get from that I’m sorry to say, there’s nobody to blame but good old Britanistan for that one. Among others.

    Thank you, I do try.

And I’ve run up against a few right muppets in my time.
