Probably, it’s been overheating when the belt snapped.
Safety stat on the heater will have blown.
New heater with stats is likely the answer and, probably not a cheap answer.

Shows up as a four-way valve Simon, part number 5221ER1002F but, not a soul has one anywhere.

Not really, it’s much of a muchness to be honest. Guess the element’s a bit easier but not much other than you need to get to the control panel to change the stat.

I think you’ll find more of them have been scrapped or, as you say, people just live with it.
There’s certainly no easy way to convert them.

No sorry, those are long obsolete as it was foamed doors so, you couldn’t get the seals anyway.

No need to apologise, all I’ve got is a line drawing to work from and it’s all too possible it uses the oven stat to regulate the grill on that model.
The problem there is that if the oven works fine and doesn’t trip then that’s ruled out as it works in exactly the same way for the oven as it does for the grill.
I’d not think it the element, stranger things I suppose and the centre is energised on grilling, the outer is usually only used when it’s used as a static oven so it’s possible I suppose but, I’d expect that to trip near enough immediately the grill was put on if it were that.
Other than that, there’s not much else it can be really.
